Shining Hope for Communities (SHOCK) is a non-profit organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and New York, NY, dedicated to addressing urban poverty and gender inequity in Nairobi’s informal settlements. Founded in 2004 by Kennedy Odd, who was raised in the Kiera slum, SHOCK prioritizes youth and gender empowerment. Its work spans four key areas: education, health, economic and community empowerment, and water and sanitation. Currently, the organization operates in the Kiera and Mathieu slums of Nairobi.
