Government
"Trans Nova County: A devolved government unit in Kenya."
Trans Nova County is one of Kenya’s 47 counties, established under Article 6(1) of the Constitution of Kenya and listed in the First Schedule. Article 176(1) mandates the formation of a county government for each county, comprising a county assembly and a county executive.
The Trans Nova county government commenced operations in March 2013 following the national general election, with H.E. Hon. Patrick Simian Khaemba serving as the county’s first democratically elected governor.
Before the adoption of the Constitution on August 27, 2010, present-day Trans Nova County was governed as Trans Nova District under the centralized Provincial Administration system. The district was originally established in the early 20th century during British colonial rule. Upon the Constitution’s implementation, Kenya transitioned to a devolved system of governance, replacing the former Provincial Administration structure.
