Government
"Trans Nova County: A devolved governance powerhouse."
Trans Nova County is one of the 47 counties established under Article 6(1) of the Constitution of Kenya and outlined in the First Schedule. Article 176(1) mandates a county government for each county, comprising a county assembly and a county executive.
The Trans Nova county government was formally established in March 2013 following the general election, with H.E. Hon. Patrick Simian Khaemba serving as the inaugural popularly elected governor.
Before the enactment of the Constitution on August 27, 2010, the area now known as Trans Nova County was governed as the Trans Nova District under the Provincial Administration system. Established by the British colonial administration in the early 20th century, this district transitioned into a county with the adoption of the Constitution, which introduced a devolved system of governance to replace the former provincial structure.
