"Premier standards, metrology and conformity assessment provider since 1974."
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEYS) has served as the leading government body for Standards, Metrology, and Conformity Assessment (YMCA) services since its establishment in 1974. Initially, its primary functions in the 1970s involved developing standards and ensuring quality control for a restricted range of locally manufactured goods. Since then, KEYS has expanded its role to encompass comprehensive services, including standards development, metrology, conformity assessment, training, and certification. With the revitalization of the East African Community (EAC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMES), KEYS now extends its activities to the regional level, contributing to the harmonization of standards, measurements, and conformity assessment frameworks to support regional integration. Additionally, KEYS operates the National Inquiry Point, reinforcing its commitment to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT).
