Job Purpose
This position is responsible for managing the University’s financial assets, liabilities and risk exposures. It involves strategic planning and oversight of the institution’s treasury operations, ensuring optimal liquidity, managing financial risks, and enhancing the financial health of the University.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement financial Treasury Policies to support the University long-term goals.
Give advisory to the University management on financial cash flow planning and investment opportunities.
Oversee the management of the University’s investment portfolio, ensuring alignment with risk tolerance and return objectives as per approved investment policies (IPS).
Explore Cash Investment Opportunities to ensure high Returns by optimizing the use of cash and other financial assets through effective investment strategies.
Review Monthly payroll (Full time, Adjunct and Casual) and ensure compliance with relevant statutory regulatory requirements related to payroll payments
Manage relationships with banks, financial institutions, and other agencies to ensure efficiency and smooth operations of the University.
Review Monthly Project Reports before submission to the External and internal Donors
Review Daily, weekly and monthly Bank Reconciliations and all relevant Journals postings
Prepare Monthly, Quarterly and annual Cash flow planning and Monitor Cash Positions at banks to ensure sufficient liquidity levels for operations and cash requirements.
Supervision and improvement of Section Processes and update of standard operating Procedures (SOP’s)
Review annual and interim Audit Schedules and ensure Section’s Audit Schedules are up to date
Review of Daily Postings and Maintain accurate records of all treasury transactions and activities
Review of General Ledger Reconciliations – Account Codes allocated to Treasury Accounts Staff and ensuring their timely completion.
Identify, assess, and manage financial risks, including interest rate risk, foreign exchange risk, and credit risk and regularly update the Risk Register.
Monitor market trends and economic conditions to inform investment decisions.
Lead and mentor the treasury team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
Work closely with project managers/Principal Investigators and donors to provide financial guidance and support.
Provide training and development opportunities for team members.
Ensure effective succession planning within the department
Requirements for Appointment
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance
Certified Public Accountant of Kenya – CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent
Relevant Master’s Degree;
Member in good standing of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)/ACCA
Proficiency in Computer Applications;
Served as Senior Accountant for a minimum of 3 years
Shown Merit and Ability as reflected in Work Performance and Results.
