An Application Specialist at Pirates plays a key role in product development and testing, validating innovations for commercial viability while delivering customized solutions to address industry-specific needs—primarily within bakery, pâtisserie, and chocolate sectors at an industrial scale.
What you do
Providing expert technical guidance and solutions to industrial bakeries and pâtisseries to enhance their operations and product quality.
Investigate customer requirements and provide support in the execution of products and concepts to ensure their successful implementation.
Cultivating enduring and robust relationships with designated accounts.
Assisting the Director of Research & Development in driving innovation and advancing new product initiatives.
Collaborating closely with clients to comprehensively assess their requirements and jointly develop customized solutions.
Spearheading initiatives to implement both current and innovative products across clients’ operational environments.
Translate the Pirates group’s New Product Development guidelines to align with the Kenya market, facilitating the seamless introduction of new products through hands-on test baking, distribution of samples, and conducting training sessions.
Identifying fresh business prospects and assessing risks associated with current portfolios to assist the business development team in achieving their sales objectives.
Working collaboratively within cross-functional teams alongside local Technical, Marketing, and Sales colleagues, as well as engaging with our global and diverse Pirates network, this role emphasizes seamless coordination and communication. Utilizing collaborative working tools and data analytics, the position ensures efficient project execution and informed decision-making.
Stay abreast of emerging and established trends in baking and ingredient development, while also cultivating an in-depth familiarity with the full spectrum of Pirates offerings.
Foster enduring, high-value partnerships with customers and cultivate a robust network comprising internal and external experts in ingredients and equipment within and beyond Pirates.
What we expect from you
A bachelor’s degree in food science or an allied discipline is required.
With a minimum of five years of practical involvement in the industrial bakery industry, candidates should possess extensive experience in large-scale baking operations.
You possess a deep enthusiasm for food and an unwavering commitment to prioritizing ethical and sustainable practices for the well-being of the planet and future generations.
A comprehensive grasp of pâtisserie automation systems, analytical methodologies, and new product development (NPD) processes is essential, along with expertise in ingredient selection to craft and enhance nutritious yet flavorful offerings.
Possesses a comprehensive knowledge of ingredient functionalities, additive applications, and fundamental principles of food chemistry.
Proficient in leveraging professional software applications, including CRM systems, spreadsheet tools, and presentation platforms, with a strong command of computer skills.
Individuals should possess a comprehensive understanding of production processes, equipment operations, and finished goods specifications to ensure efficient workflow and product quality.
Customer-focused with a keen aptitude for business growth initiatives.
Proficient in transforming innovative ideas into compelling, high-quality end products while adhering to the constraints and efficiencies of an industrial manufacturing setting.
