The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of expert technical assistance for a cross-border initiative aimed at strengthening digital competencies and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. This critical position will also advocate for enhanced disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets across seven nations spanning East, West, and Southern Africa.

The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will oversee the design and execution of the program to ensure full alignment with Sight savers’ thematic and program strategies, while spearheading the development of pioneering, inclusive methodologies that foster systemic transformation and deliver lasting, meaningful impact.

This is a full-time, on-site position requiring the successful candidate to work from the Sight savers office in either Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi, five days each week.

Responsibilities include overseeing project execution, ensuring adherence to timelines, and maintaining high-quality standards throughout the process. The role requires coordinating cross-functional teams, delegating tasks effectively, and monitoring progress to meet organizational objectives. Additionally, the position entails identifying potential risks, implementing mitigation strategies, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to address challenges and optimize workflows.

Deliver high-level technical guidance for a cross-regional initiative aimed at enhancing digital competencies and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, simultaneously promoting disability inclusion within workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to align efforts and deliver program objectives with maximum impact.

Spearhead forward-thinking strategic projects to cultivate and introduce innovative initiatives, elevating the caliber, pertinence, and long-term viability of Sight savers’ endeavors.

Collaborate on interdepartmental initiatives spanning research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications, engaging with both internal colleagues and external partners to drive collective impact.

Serving as Sightsavers’ senior representative, you will leverage expertise in digital inclusion and the digital economy, engaging with national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector platforms.

The incumbent is required to undertake travel commitments amounting to a maximum of 12 weeks annually.

This position requires a strategic collaborator skilled in fostering collaboration across varied teams and global locations. Key responsibilities include up to 12 weeks of international travel annually to facilitate program implementation and enhance stakeholder relations.

The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications: a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, at least five years of experience in a similar role, and proficiency in industry-standard software. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. The position requires meticulous attention to detail, adaptability to changing priorities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results. Prior experience in project management or leadership is highly desirable.

Essential:

A master’s degree or higher—preferably a PhD—in digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a related field is required, or equivalent professional experience may be considered.

Possesses a clear grasp of contemporary discussions and challenges in AI and digital technologies, along with their broader impacts on skills’ development, employment opportunities, fair work standards, and labor market dynamics within African and Global South settings.

Seasoned professionals with a strong background in designing and implementing digital skills programs, training initiatives, and employment transition strategies—particularly in the global South—are encouraged to apply.

Professional experience in non-governmental or non-profit organizations, particularly in administering programs funded by donors.

Demonstrates a strong capability to collaborate effectively with diverse labor market stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on engaging the private sector to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.

Adept at analyzing emerging trends and advancements in artificial intelligence and digital innovation, with a keen focus on their transformative effects on employment patterns and labor markets across Africa and the Global South.

Fluent proficiency in both spoken and written English is required, along with the capacity to compile comprehensive reports and effectively conduct presentations.

Demonstrates exceptional analytical and strategic thinking abilities, adept at developing plans from both programmatic and organizational viewpoints.

Exceptional leadership abilities, robust networking expertise, and strong stakeholder engagement capabilities, coupled with diplomacy and tact, are essential.

Experience working on TVET systems.

Desirable:
