About the Role

The Director of Human Resources and Business Administration will oversee a comprehensive range of HR functions, such as recruiting and onboarding new employees, managing benefits and payroll, fostering professional development, ensuring adherence to HR policies, and providing leadership in business administration, financial oversight, budgeting, and procurement. Additionally, the Director will champion staff well-being and cultivate a collaborative, high-performing team culture to advance Kenya Connect’s mission.

Overseeing and executing a broad spectrum of tasks, the role entails managing daily operations, coordinating team efforts, ensuring adherence to company policies, and maintaining high standards of productivity and efficiency. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic plans, analyzing performance metrics to drive improvements, fostering a collaborative work environment, and addressing operational challenges proactively. Additionally, the position requires meticulous attention to detail in reporting, budget management, and resource allocation, while also facilitating communication between departments to align objectives and optimize workflows.

The position involves overseeing various human resources functions, including recruitment, employee onboarding, performance management, and compliance with labor regulations. Responsibilities also include handling employee relations, benefits administration, payroll processing, and maintaining accurate personnel records. Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field, along with at least three years of relevant experience in an HR role. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is proficiency in HR management software and Microsoft Office Suite. The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion is required.

Oversee staff attendance, encompassing both arrival and departure times, as well as the management of leave requests and sick days.

Oversee the processing of applications for job and internship opportunities in collaboration with the Senior Leadership team.

Oversee the organization and maintenance of both paper-based and electronic personnel files to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with relevant regulations.

Consult with the Leadership Team to address and resolve workplace conflicts effectively.

Assist with compiling and drafting HR and finance reports to be submitted to the Kenya NGO Board and US-based nonprofit organizations.

Compliance with data protection regulations and ethical data collection practices must be maintained at all times.

Responsible for managing the acquisition of goods and materials for Kenya Connect, with a focus on securing cost-effective solutions, negotiating equitable pricing, and adhering to established procurement policies and procedures.

Offer supervision to the Accountant and authorize payments in collaboration with the Executive Director.

Ensure adherence to internal policies, legal regulations, and donor-mandated requirements governing administrative and financial operations.

Seeking candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a comparable role. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a track record of delivering results-driven projects and possess a passion for continuous learning and professional growth.

A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or a closely related field is required.

A minimum of five years of hands-on Human Resources experience, ideally within an international or local NGO setting, coupled with a strong grasp of HR best practices, industry standards, staff medical insurance protocols, and compliance with Kenyan employment laws.

As a fully accredited member of the Institute of Human Resource Management, holding a current and valid practicing license, you will demonstrate expertise in HR practices and compliance with professional standards.

Candidates holding the position of CPA III or higher will receive preferential consideration.

Proficient in computer operations with advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and QuickBooks, as well as Google Docs, ensuring efficient document creation, data management, and financial tracking.

Proficient in workplace safety legislation and employee benefits compliance regulations.

Proficient in understanding and applying taxation laws to ensure compliance and optimize tax-related processes.
