The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of exceptional technical support for an expansive, multi-country initiative aimed at bolstering digital skills and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. This critical position will further advocate for disability inclusion in both workplace environments and labor markets across seven nations in East, West, and Southern Africa.

The GTL will oversee the design and execution of the program, ensuring it aligns with Sight savers’ thematic and strategic frameworks while spearheading the development of inventive, inclusive methodologies that foster systemic transformation and sustainable outcomes.

This is a full-time, on-site position requiring the successful candidate to work from the Sight savers office in Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi on a five-day weekly basis.

We are seeking a detail-oriented professional to oversee and execute a variety of critical tasks, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to established protocols. The role demands a proactive approach to managing projects, resolving issues promptly, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency. Key duties include coordinating team efforts, monitoring progress against milestones, and delivering results in alignment with organizational objectives. Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential for success in this position.

Offer expert technical guidance to a cross-regional initiative dedicated to enhancing digital proficiency and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, while simultaneously fostering greater disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Partner with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to achieve unified, results-driven fulfillment of program objectives.

Spearhead the development and implementation of innovative strategic initiatives aimed at elevating the quality, relevance, and long-term sustainability of Sight savers’ initiatives.

Assist in collaborative initiatives spanning research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications across the organization, collaborating closely with internal departments and external partners.

Serving as Sight savers’ authoritative representative on digital inclusion and the digital economy, this senior role involves actively engaging in national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector-specific platforms to drive advocacy and share expertise.

The incumbent should anticipate travel commitments amounting to up to 12 weeks annually.

As a strategic collaborator, you will engage with cross-functional teams and global locations, requiring the ability to adapt and thrive in diverse environments. This position entails up to 12 weeks of international travel annually, essential for advancing program delivery and fostering meaningful stakeholder relationships.

Holders of this position must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with a minimum of five years of professional experience in a comparable role. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data interpretation are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are required to convey complex information effectively. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of industry regulations and compliance standards.

Essential:

A master’s degree or higher—with a PhD strongly preferred—in digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a comparable field, or equivalent professional experience, is required.

Demonstrates a deep grasp of emerging trends in AI and digital technologies, along with their transformative effects on employment patterns and labor markets across Africa and the Global South.

Fluent verbal and written English skills are essential, enabling the creation of comprehensive reports and the delivery of impactful presentations.

Demonstrates exceptional analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, adept at developing plans that encompass both programmatic and organizational dimensions.

Demonstrates exceptional leadership abilities, fosters strong networking connections, and effectively engages with stakeholders, all while maintaining a diplomatic and tactful approach.

Experience working on TVET systems.

Experienced in collaborating with tripartite labor market stakeholders, with a particular focus on the private sector—especially those in digital industries—to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work standards.

Demonstrated skill in fostering cross-departmental collaboration and thriving in diverse team environments.

Developed and refined technical guidance documents along with programming tools to meet evolving project needs and technological advancements.
