Job Summary
The Legal Officer will manage the company’s legal operations, overseeing litigation proceedings, facilitating settlements, and pursuing recovery actions. This role involves collaborating with external counsel, internal departments, and senior leadership to ensure the protection of the company’s legal rights and interests.
Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties and responsibilities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and operational standards. Facilitate the management of daily workflows, prioritize tasks effectively, and maintain meticulous attention to detail in all assigned activities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality outcomes, address challenges proactively, and contribute to continuous process improvements. Ensure adherence to established policies, procedures, and compliance requirements while fostering a culture of accountability and excellence within the team.
Upon receipt of summons, assessing whether legal liability may be imposed upon the Company is a primary responsibility.
Forwarding cases to designated advocates and providing them with detailed instructions regarding case handling procedures.
Providing our advocates with directives regarding whether to pursue court trials or seek out-of-court settlements to mitigate escalating costs associated with confirmed injuries.
Analyzing feedback and perspectives shared by our advocates.
To facilitate witness attendance at court and ensure our advocates are fully prepared, we will schedule and coordinate witness appearances as well as pre-trial briefing sessions at our offices.
Providing guidance to our advocates regarding cases requiring plaintiffs to undergo secondary medical evaluations is an essential responsibility.
Ensure all advocate correspondence is promptly addressed while maintaining current and accurate information in each file.
Assessing and making decisions regarding subsequent actions, such as appeals.
Drafting legal reports upon request constitutes a key responsibility of this position.
To conduct regular audits of legal files to verify the maintenance of precise reserves and ensure their current status.
In collaboration with the Claims Manager, pursue the recovery of funds for the Company.
Execute any additional tasks as directed by the supervisor on an ongoing basis.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or an equivalent qualification is required.
A postgraduate diploma in law is essential, with admission to the bar and possession of a valid practicing certificate being mandatory prerequisites.
Proficient in utilizing MS Office Suite and other relevant office productivity applications.
A minimum of one year of experience in legal practice is required.

A working familiarity with insurance law and practice would be beneficial.
