Established in a modest setting in 1992, Tarsi Assurance Company Limited was founded by seven shareholders. The company commenced operations in 1993 in Westland’s, beginning with a paid-up capital of KSS 20 million and a team of nine employees.
Since its inception, Tarsi Assurance has demonstrated exceptional growth, a rarity in the insurance sector. By 2009, following a capital injection by shareholders, the company’s paid-up capital increased to KSS 219.9 million as of December 2008, meeting the regulatory minimum requirement of KSS 300 million. The company’s headquarters, formerly known as Swan Court, was acquired in 2001 and now operates as Tarsi Court. Total assets grew from Kshs 19.7 million in 1993 to KSS 1.28 billion in 2009, up from KSS 1.08 billion in 2008. Gross premiums surged from KSS 20 million in 1993 to over KSS 510 million by December 31, 2009, while after-tax profit for 2009 reached KSS 98.4 million, a significant improvement from a loss of KSS 1.8 million in 2008.
