Role Summary

Mariana Enterprises Ltd. is in search of a seasoned Earthworks Foreman to oversee and manage earthworks operations within road construction projects.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on expertise in road construction, with demonstrated proficiency in earthworks operations such as land clearing, excavation, embankment construction, fill placement, soil compaction, grading, drainage system installation, and subgrade preparation.

This position demands a highly self-motivated and organized professional capable of supervising site crews, arranging plant and machinery operations, adhering to directives from engineers and site leadership, and guaranteeing that earthworks are executed with strict adherence to safety standards, operational efficiency, and project specifications.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of critical tasks, including strategic planning, project management, and operational oversight, to ensure organizational efficiency and goal attainment. Deliver consistent, high-quality performance while adhering to established policies, procedures, and industry standards. Lead cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and driving results through effective communication and delegation. Monitor progress, analyze performance metrics, and implement data-driven adjustments to optimize outcomes. Serve as a key liaison between departments, senior leadership, and external stakeholders to align efforts and resolve conflicts. Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to maintain competitive advantage and compliance.

The Earthworks Foreman will oversee and execute a range of essential duties, including but not limited to, the following responsibilities:

We oversee on-site operations and manage the execution of earthworks to ensure adherence to project specifications and safety standards. This role involves coordinating with contractors, monitoring progress, and verifying compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements. Additionally, we conduct quality inspections, address any discrepancies, and maintain accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and efficiency are essential for success in this position.

Oversee on-site earthworks operations for road construction projects on a daily basis.

Responsibilities include overseeing clearing, grubbing, excavation, cut-to-fill operations, embankment construction, backfilling, material spreading, grading, leveling, and compaction activities.

Ensure all work is executed in strict accordance with approved drawings, specifications, elevations, alignments, and directives issued by the Site Agent, Project Manager, or Engineer.

Ensure adherence to specified earthworks standards by regularly assessing layer thickness, moisture levels, compaction requirements, and overall workmanship quality throughout the project execution.

Ensure inappropriate materials are accurately identified, separated, and removed from the site, or promptly reported to site management if necessary.

Provide support in establishing layout, maintaining level control, and collaborating with surveyors to ensure all work is carried out precisely according to specified lines and elevations.

Oversee the completion of subgrade preparation, road formation, shoulders, side drains, culvert approaches, and associated earthwork areas.

Ensure that all activities are performed in the correct order to prevent delays, rework, or inefficient handling of equipment and materials.

Labour, Plant & Equipment Coordination

Coordinate the deployment of excavators, graders, rollers, water bowlers, tippers, bulldozers, loaders, and various construction site machinery to ensure efficient operation.

Monitor plant productivity and ensure machines are used efficiently.

Report equipment breakdowns, idle time, fuel issues, operator concerns, and maintenance needs to site management.

Ensure operators and labour teams understand daily targets, work areas, safety requirements, and quality expectations.

Foster a disciplined, productive, and collaborative work environment among all site personnel.

Ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance remains a top priority. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, strict adherence to established guidelines, and proactive identification of potential risks. Responsibilities include monitoring processes, conducting audits, and implementing corrective actions to maintain compliance with industry and organizational standards. Safely execute earthworks in strict adherence to established company protocols and project specifications.

Ensure site safety by overseeing all activities related to excavation, haulage, tipping, compaction, and the operation of heavy equipment.

Verify that employees consistently utilize suitable personal protective equipment and adhere to all prescribed site safety protocols.

Assess and document unsafe conditions, substandard craftsmanship, defective materials, and any potential hazards at the site to ensure accurate reporting.

Facilitate the implementation of corrective measures to address instances where work fails to comply with established performance benchmarks.

Ensure the site remains consistently tidy, well-structured, and hazard-free to uphold workplace safety and efficiency.

You will be responsible for overseeing reporting processes and ensuring effective coordination across various departments. This role involves compiling and analyzing data, generating accurate reports, and disseminating key information to stakeholders in a timely manner. Strong attention to detail and proficiency in data management tools are required, along with the ability to collaborate seamlessly with teams to align objectives and streamline workflows.

Deliver daily progress reports to the Site Agent, Project Manager, or any assigned site supervisor.

Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including work completed, labor attendance, equipment utilization, material movements, any delays encountered, and site-related challenges.

Compilation and submission of daily site reports are required when necessary.

Collaborate effectively with surveyors, engineers, plant operators, storekeepers, subcontractors, and on-site personnel to ensure seamless project execution.

Identify and promptly communicate any inadequacies in materials, workforce, machinery, fuel, water, or other essential resources that may hinder earthworks operations.

Promptly address and resolve technical issues, discrepancies in levels, design-related concerns, or site obstructions.

Proven track record in overseeing the coordination of heavy construction machinery and earthmoving equipment.

Proficient in interpreting and comprehending fundamental drawings, elevation details, site-specific instructions, and project work plans.

Possesses a solid grasp of site safety regulations and construction quality benchmarks.

Experienced in collaborating with site engineers, surveyors, machine operators, drivers, and labor teams to ensure seamless project execution.

Proficient in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning, with a strong ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
