POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role involves overseeing the daily medical care of outpatients, along with mentoring and guiding junior medical staff. The Medical Officer evaluates and manages outpatient care, maintains communication with lead surgeons to address any critical changes in a patient’s condition, and collaborates on treatment and management decisions.

Responsibilities include overseeing core functions such as coordinating schedules, managing communications, and ensuring adherence to established protocols. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of operational frameworks and the ability to execute tasks with precision. Key requirements encompass proficiency in relevant software, strong organizational skills, and experience in a similar capacity. Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the Medical Officer’s defined scope of clinical practice, as dictated by operational requirements.

Analyze pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports, then relay critical findings to the primary surgeon with clarity and precision.

Accurately document the patient’s history, examination findings, management plans, investigations, and actions taken within the medical record.

Collaborate in the coordination of care initiatives to enhance patient throughput throughout the facility.

Conduct comprehensive evaluations of both outpatient and inpatient cases in collaboration with the appropriate residents and/or lead surgeons.

Facilitate the diagnosis and management of the patient’s condition by initiating necessary actions, such as ordering radiology and pathology tests, prescribing suitable medications, and coordinating referrals for specialist consultations when needed.

Deliver brief, practical educational sessions to junior medical staff on an ongoing basis.

Engage with patients and/or their immediate family members to discuss their medical status and provide relevant information.

The Medical Officer must maintain a valid and active license at all times.

Oversees clinical support services encompassing Pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, biomedical engineering, and nutritional services.

Oversees the performance of all clinical officers employed at the facility, ensuring adherence to professional standards and operational protocols.

Engage in quality management initiatives aligned with the Hospital Quality standards established for the department.

Assists with various additional tasks as assigned, ensuring all operational needs are met efficiently and in alignment with company standards. These responsibilities may include special projects, cross-functional support, or temporary assignments to address evolving business demands. The role requires adaptability, collaboration, and a commitment to maintaining high productivity levels while contributing to the overall success of the team.

Seeking a candidate with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, complemented by at least three years of hands-on experience in a comparable role. MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree or an equivalent qualification is required.

Qualified and officially recognized by the Medical Council of Kenya, this position requires registration as a medical officer.

A leadership and management course or relevant experience would be advantageous.
