Perform underwriting functions for the health insurance portfolio to uphold strong risk selection, maintain high-quality business standards, and meet profitability and loss ratio objectives.
Assess health risks and determine underwriting outcomes—whether to accept, decline, or modify applications—within the scope of delegated authority, utilizing sound technical judgment and strict compliance with established underwriting guidelines.
Analyze risk exposure to establish and enforce suitable pricing, terms, and conditions, maintaining a strategic equilibrium between market competitiveness and rigorous underwriting standards.
Ensure strict adherence to established underwriting standards, credit policies, and delegated authority limits while upholding robust risk governance and audit preparedness.
Monitor designated risks while executing on risk survey suggestions, guaranteeing prompt execution and sustained enhancements to portfolio quality.
Partner with business development, claims, and other internal teams to facilitate the acquisition of new business, enhance client retention, and address underwriting-related concerns efficiently and effectively.
Monitor underwriting performance trends, identify emerging risks or areas of underperformance, and facilitate corrective measures to address these issues.
Ensure meticulous maintenance of underwriting records and proper documentation of client data, adhering strictly to company policies and regulatory standards.
Adhere rigorously to the designated Delegated Authority Matrix and elevate any actions beyond the prescribed thresholds for proper review.
Support ongoing enhancements to underwriting procedures, streamline turnaround times, and elevate service delivery standards.
Perform all additional responsibilities as directed to contribute to the achievement of departmental goals.
Required knowledge, experience, and qualifications include a comprehensive understanding of industry standards, proficiency in relevant technical skills, and a proven track record in the field. Candidates must possess a formal education in a related discipline, such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, coupled with hands-on experience in practical applications. Familiarity with specific tools, methodologies, or regulatory frameworks pertinent to the role is essential. Additionally, strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively are critical.
A bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or an insurance-related field is strongly preferred.
A recognized professional qualification in Insurance, such as ACID or INK, is required for this role.
Seeking a candidate with six to eight years of hands-on experience in Health Underwriting, at least two of which must have been in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
A strong preference is given to candidates who demonstrate a sharp focus on innovation within the insurance and financial services industries.
Proven ability to compile, analyze, and present data effectively, along with expertise in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
Proficiency in data visualization tools, such as Power BI or Tableau, or comparable platforms, will be considered a beneficial asset.
