Execute the Health underwriting mandate by applying rigorous risk selection, maintaining strict pricing discipline, and managing portfolios effectively within designated authority limits. This role ensures the accomplishment of loss ratio targets, portfolio quality standards, and alignment with the company’s underwriting philosophy.
Oversee a range of critical duties, including strategic project planning, cross-functional collaboration, and process optimization to drive organizational efficiency and innovation. Develop and implement comprehensive policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices. Lead and mentor high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Analyze key performance indicators to assess operational effectiveness, identify areas for enhancement, and recommend data-driven solutions to senior leadership. Serve as the primary liaison between departments, stakeholders, and external partners to align objectives and facilitate seamless communication. Ensure adherence to budgetary constraints, resource allocation, and timelines while maintaining a strong focus on delivering measurable results.
Perform underwriting functions for the health insurance portfolio, maintaining robust risk selection processes, high-quality business standards, and the attainment of profitability and loss ratio objectives.
Assess health risks and determine appropriate underwriting actions—acceptance, declination, or modification—within the bounds of delegated authority, leveraging sound technical expertise and strict adherence to established underwriting protocols.
Analyze risk exposure to establish suitable pricing, terms, and conditions that maintain an optimal balance between market competitiveness and disciplined underwriting practices.
Ensure strict adherence to underwriting standards, credit policies, and delegated authority limits while upholding robust risk governance and audit preparedness.
Monitor assigned risks and execute risk survey recommendations promptly, driving timely implementation and ongoing enhancements in portfolio quality.
Partner with business development, claims, and other internal departments to facilitate the acquisition and retention of business while addressing underwriting-related issues.
Monitor underwriting performance trends, identify emerging risks or areas of underperformance, and facilitate the implementation of corrective measures.
Maintain precise underwriting records while meticulously documenting client information in strict adherence to both company policies and regulatory standards.
Strictly adhere to the approved Delegated Authority Matrix and elevate any decisions that fall outside the specified limits for higher-level review.
Enhance underwriting processes, reduce turnaround times, and elevate service delivery standards through ongoing initiatives.
Perform additional responsibilities as designated to further departmental goals and initiatives.
Required knowledge, experience, and qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or insurance option preferred.
A recognized professional qualification in insurance, such as ACID or INK, is required.
Seeking a candidate with 6 to 8 years of experience in Health Underwriting, including at least two years in a leadership role.
Innovation-driven professionals with a keen understanding of the insurance and financial services sectors are highly desirable.
Strong reporting and data management skills.
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau or similar) will be an added advantage.
