The Accounting & Finance Associate plays a pivotal role in enhancing organizational efficiency and effectiveness by ensuring optimal, appropriate, and impactful use of resources, as well as precise financial recording, accounting, and reporting. This position’s contributions are instrumental in strengthening management oversight, guiding informed decision-making, and upholding rigorous quality control standards.

Key responsibilities include overseeing and executing a range of critical functions and deliverables. The role demands active management of designated tasks, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives while maintaining high standards of performance. Accountabilities encompass strategic planning, operational oversight, and cross-functional collaboration to drive efficiency and innovation. The position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to adapt to dynamic business environments. Additionally, the role involves regular reporting, stakeholder engagement, and adherence to compliance standards to support sustainable growth and success.

Prepare financial reports, compile data, and process queries to support compliance and maintain accuracy.

The Local Finance Focal Point is tasked with meticulously reviewing and validating invoices, performing accurate calculations, and ensuring timely submissions to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).

Ensure accurate record-keeping by overseeing and reconciling expenditures, balances, and payments for daily transactions.

Data Management responsibilities include selecting, verifying, and entering data from various sources while maintaining strict standards for completeness and accuracy.

Prepare recurring and special reports to meet audit, budgetary, and other organizational requirements, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.

Provide assistance with the year-end account closure process and contribute to the preparation of financial statements for year-end.

The incumbent will advise staff and consultants on financial matters, including allowances, claims, and related issues.

Initiate correspondence to validate information and address any inconsistencies encountered.

Maintain strong relationships with local banking institutions, oversee exchange rate fluctuations, and ensure accurate preparation of financial reconciliations.

Budget Support involves developing cost estimates and actively participating in budget analysis and project activities.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with a minimum of five years of professional experience in a similar role. Strong proficiency in project management software and tools is essential, as is the ability to lead cross-functional teams. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are required, along with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget. Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance standards is also necessary.

A secondary education credential is mandatory for this position.

A minimum of six years of relevant professional experience within finance and accounting is mandatory.

Required Skills: Expertise in developing and overseeing project plans, objectives, and deliverables, along with monitoring resource allocation—including time, budget, and team contributions—while proactively identifying potential risks. Strong analytical capabilities to interpret data, pinpoint challenges, and deliver strategic insights that support informed decision-making. Demonstrated proficiency in leveraging digital tools, AI-driven platforms, and business systems to enhance data accuracy, streamline management processes, and optimize reporting mechanisms.

Proficiency in English is essential for this position.

Desirables:

Proficiency in an additional official United Nations language—including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish—or the local language of the assigned duty station is advantageous.

Courses in finance or accounting, whether pursued professionally or academically, are strongly preferred.

Relevant country-level experience—especially in development initiatives, fragile environments, and humanitarian operations—will be considered an asset.
