Reporting directly to the Head of Employee Relations, Performance & Wellness, this position plays a key role in developing and implementing people strategies that foster a workplace characterized by fairness, inclusivity, and high engagement.

This role encompasses fostering strong employee relationships, upholding legal standards, managing performance, and nurturing a culture rooted in shared values.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties, including but not limited to strategic planning, project management, and cross-functional collaboration, to ensure organizational objectives are met with precision and efficiency. Regularly assess performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions to enhance operational effectiveness. Serve as a liaison between senior leadership and departmental teams to facilitate seamless communication and alignment with company goals. Additionally, lead initiatives that drive innovation, optimize resource allocation, and foster a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.

Employee Relations encompasses fostering a positive and productive workplace by addressing employee concerns, mediating conflicts, and promoting fair treatment. This role involves ensuring compliance with labor laws, investigating grievances, and maintaining open communication channels between staff and management. Responsibilities include resolving workplace disputes, advising on employee rights and policies, and implementing initiatives to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction. Additionally, the position requires collaborating with HR teams to uphold organizational standards, mitigate risks, and support both employees and leadership in achieving mutual goals.

Assist in crafting, clarifying, and disseminating HR policies that comply with Kenyan Labour Laws, applicable regulations, and the Bank’s established values and governance frameworks.

Oversee employee relations functions encompassing disciplinary actions, grievance resolution, workplace conduct concerns, and appeal processes, maintaining equity, uniformity, and adherence to established internal guidelines and regulatory standards.

Maintain precise and verifiable records of employee relations cases in partnership with HR Business Partners and operational leadership, ensuring adherence to regulatory record-keeping and compliance standards.

Facilitate organizational change efforts—such as restructures or branch realignments—by ensuring employee engagement, operational continuity, and adherence to regulatory requirements remain intact throughout the process.

Offer prompt and actionable counsel to managers regarding equitable, uniform, and regulation-compliant management of employee-related issues, thereby reducing operational and reputational exposure.

Serve as a panel member during disciplinary hearings, upholding due process, procedural fairness, and meticulous documentation in compliance with established internal policies and relevant labor regulations.

Oversee interactions with employee representatives and workplace committees, cultivating open dialogue, mutual trust, and cooperative efforts to uphold a productive and regulation-compliant workplace.

Maintain accurate and confidential disciplinary records by proficiently managing the ER tracker, guaranteeing that information is easily accessible for audit and decision-making needs.

Collaborate in the regular assessment and revision of the HR Manual to maintain continuous conformity with employment laws, regulatory standards, and emerging trends in the banking industry.

Oversee performance management processes to ensure alignment with organizational goals, fostering employee development and accountability through regular evaluations and feedback mechanisms. Develop and implement performance metrics, track progress against key objectives, and facilitate constructive discussions to enhance productivity and engagement. Identify high-potential talent, address performance gaps, and recommend targeted interventions to support continuous improvement and career growth. Collaborate with leadership to refine performance standards and ensure consistency across departments while maintaining compliance with company policies and legal requirements.

Oversee the planning and dissemination of performance review timelines and correspondence.

Facilitate the performance management process for employees and managers by providing guidance and assistance throughout the cycle.

Monitor performance metrics and guarantee that evaluations are conducted punctually.

Ensure the precision of performance metrics and compile comprehensive performance reports.

Collaborate on establishing objectives, gathering input, and organizing review processes.

Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all established HR policies and procedures.

The incumbent will assist in implementing the Bank’s Employee Wellness Program by coordinating wellness initiatives in alignment with the approved Wellness Calendar. This involves collaborating with accredited wellness service providers, organizing activities, fostering staff participation, and maintaining timely and professional communication with employees.

Support strategic inclusion and employee engagement initiatives—such as diversity forums and employee resource groups—by organizing logistics, managing communications, and collecting feedback to strengthen program outcomes and overall impact.

Facilitate the development and implementation of employee engagement initiatives, including end-of-year gatherings and collaborative forums, to foster teamwork, strategic alignment, and a cohesive organizational culture.

To design and execute employee recognition programs collaboratively at the organizational and departmental levels, encompassing formal awards and peer recognition efforts, with the aim of fostering a high-performance culture.

Craft compelling and concise communication materials focused on employee wellness programs, policy updates, and engagement initiatives, ensuring strict adherence to internal communication guidelines.

Ensure the fulfillment of established performance goals in accordance with the Bank’s HR strategy, balanced scorecard, and individual performance targets, thereby fostering measurable impact and accountability.

Applicants must hold an advanced degree in a relevant discipline, such as a Master’s or Doctorate, from an accredited institution. Candidates should possess a strong academic background, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or equivalent, and demonstrate expertise in research methodologies pertinent to the field. Additionally, prior teaching experience at the collegiate level is highly desirable, along with evidence of scholarly contributions, such as published work or conference presentations.

A bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a closely aligned discipline is required.

Professional Qualifications / Membership to Professional Bodies / Publication:

A minimum of five years of post-graduate experience in a relevant field, complemented by active participation in professional organizations and demonstrated contributions to the sector through published research or articles.

Member of IHRM.

CHRP-K is an added advantage.

Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is necessary for consideration.

A minimum of three to four years of hands-on HR generalist experience, with particular expertise in employee relations, performance management, and wellness initiatives.

Proficient understanding of Kenya’s Labour Laws and regulations is essential.

Proven expertise in managing disciplinary matters and collaborating effectively with employee representatives or line managers.

Proven track record in spearheading or actively supporting initiatives focused on employee engagement, recognition, and wellness.

Demonstrated proficiency in a range of technical and interpersonal skills is essential. Strong problem-solving capabilities, effective communication, and collaborative teamwork are key attributes required for success in this role. Familiarity with industry-standard tools and methodologies is expected, along with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Leadership potential and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines are also important considerations.
