Purpose

The Senior Accountant specializing in Asset Management is tasked with overseeing all asset-related accounting activities, including the maintenance of the fixed assets register and implementing risk management protocols for these assets. Additionally, the role encompasses the accounting for accruals and prepayments, ensuring tax compliance and filing, as well as preparing financial statements in adherence with applicable IFRS standards. The position further involves managing accounts payable and expenses, strengthening internal controls, facilitating audit procedures, and contributing to budgeting and forecasting initiatives in alignment with organizational guidelines.

Job Magnitude

Reports directly to the Finance Manager and collaborates extensively with Projects, Operations, and other internal departments. External engagements encompass interactions with suppliers and auditors, ensuring seamless coordination across all touchpoints.

This position plays a crucial role in upholding financial integrity by ensuring the precise and comprehensive recognition of assets, expenses, and accruals. It significantly influences the quality of financial reporting, audit preparedness, and stakeholder contentment through the timely execution of audits and the establishment of robust internal controls.

Facilitates the preparation and execution of budgeting and forecasting initiatives as needed.

Execute a wide range of tasks encompassing operational oversight, strategic planning, and team leadership to ensure organizational objectives are met efficiently. Conduct thorough performance evaluations of team members, fostering a collaborative work environment that prioritizes professional development and accountability. Oversee project timelines, budget adherence, and resource allocation to maintain seamless workflows and deliver high-quality outcomes. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance productivity, compliance, and overall business performance. Serve as a key liaison between senior management and departmental teams, facilitating clear communication and alignment with company goals. Additionally, analyze data trends, identify areas for improvement, and propose innovative solutions to drive continuous growth and operational excellence.

Conduct comprehensive accounting for all asset categories, including fixed assets, intangible assets, and those governed by IFRS 16, ensuring full adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards.

Perform fixed asset verification and assign asset tags to maintain an up-to-date asset register in coordination with the operations team.

Monitor and verify accruals and prepayments, ensuring their recognition occurs at the appropriate times and fully complies with established accounting policies.

Oversee the asset management function, encompassing the maintenance of the asset register, preparation of schedules, generation of reports, and execution of reconciliations.

Prepare the audit-ready schedules and supporting documentation for assets, accruals, prepayments, and tax-related matters. Additionally, assist in the development of budgets, financial forecasts, and management reporting.

Ensure strict adherence to tax regulations by overseeing VAT and WHT filings, performing accurate monthly reconciliations, and maintaining up-to-date internal ledger records.

Ensure the timely renewal of assets insurance to manage risk effectively.

Perform treasury operations and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements for the holding entity.

Document commissions in accordance with contractual agreements and projected revenue streams.

Handle any additional duties as directed by management.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ is essential. Candidates must possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Prior experience in software development, system design, or relevant technical roles is preferred. Familiarity with Agile methodologies, cloud platforms, and DevOps practices is advantageous. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to continuous learning are also necessary.

Hard Skills

A reputable institution must confer a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a closely related field.

A member in good standing of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (IC PAK) or the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ARCA).

Proficient expertise in IFRS is essential, with a working understanding of US GAAP being an additional asset.

With a minimum of six years of professional experience in a high-volume finance setting, candidates should demonstrate a robust background in asset management and an unwavering commitment to compliance standards.

Proficiency at an expert level in Microsoft Excel would be highly advantageous.
