The Accounting & Finance Associate plays a critical role in enhancing resource utilization and ensuring accurate financial recording, accounting, and reporting. This position contributes to streamlined operations and reliable financial management, which are essential for effective management oversight, informed decision-making, and robust quality control.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities encompass a broad range of core functions integral to the role, including strategic oversight, operational management, and cross-functional collaboration. Compilation and preparation of financial reports, alongside data compilation and query resolution, are integral responsibilities to uphold compliance and maintain accuracy.

Verify invoices, perform calculations, and prepare submissions for the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC), serving as the Local Finance Focal Point.

Maintain accurate financial records by systematically tracking and verifying expenditures, account balances, and payment transactions to ensure precision and compliance with established protocols.

We are responsible for overseeing data management tasks, including the careful selection, validation, and entry of information sourced from various channels, with a strong emphasis on maintaining integrity and precision throughout the process.

Prepare recurring and special reports to fulfill scheduled requirements as well as ad-hoc requests for audits, budgets, and other operational needs.

Support the completion of year-end accounts by facilitating account closure processes and contributing to the preparation of end-of-year financial statements.

Offer counsel to employees and consultants regarding allowances, reimbursements, and financial procedures.

Initiate correspondence to verify information and address discrepancies as needed.

The role involves cultivating and sustaining connections with regional banking institutions, tracking fluctuations in exchange rates, and conducting financial reconciliations.

Prepare cost estimates and support budget analysis and project planning efforts.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, alongside a minimum of three years of professional experience in a comparable role. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential, as is proficiency in industry-standard software and tools. Candidates must demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels. Additionally, the ideal applicant will exhibit a proven track record of delivering results under tight deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail.

A secondary education credential is mandatory for this position.

A minimum of six years of professional experience in finance and accounting is mandatory for consideration.

Proficient in developing and executing project plans, establishing measurable objectives, and ensuring timely delivery of outcomes while efficiently allocating resources such as time, budget, and team capacity. Skillful in evaluating data, diagnosing challenges, and translating findings into strategic recommendations to support informed decision-making. Experienced in leveraging digital tools, AI-driven solutions, and integrated business systems to enhance data integrity, streamline analysis, and optimize reporting mechanisms.

Proficiency in English is a mandatory requirement for this position.

Desirables:

Proficiency in an additional official United Nations language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or the local language of the duty station is regarded as a valuable asset.

Academic credentials or professional training in finance and accounting are strongly preferred.

Proficiency in country-level work, especially in development initiatives, fragile environments, and humanitarian operations, is highly desirable.
