Objective
Our client within the healthcare sector is seeking to appoint a Theatre Nurse to provide perioperative support, collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary team to uphold the highest standards of patient safety, procedural efficiency, and quality care throughout surgical interventions.
Oversee a range of critical operational duties, including the management of project timelines, adherence to budget constraints, and the coordination of cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution. Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance productivity, mitigate risks, and align activities with organizational objectives. Serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing regular updates and fostering transparent communication to maintain alignment and address concerns promptly. Conduct thorough performance evaluations to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective measures where necessary. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and internal policies through consistent monitoring and auditing.
Ensure all operating theaters are meticulously prepared and equipped, verifying that every piece of instrumentation and machinery is properly sterilized and fully operational prior to procedures.
Provide support to surgeons and anesthetists throughout surgical procedures by preparing and handing over necessary instruments while strictly adhering to aseptic protocols.
Track patients’ physiological indicators, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and temperature, at all stages—before, during, and after surgical procedures—to ensure their well-being and detect any deviations promptly.
Deliver comprehensive nursing care before and after surgical procedures, encompassing patient education and supportive counselling to facilitate optimal recovery outcomes.
Skilled nurses will deliver scrub, circulating, and recovery support across a variety of surgical specialties.
Maintain rigorous adherence to aseptic technique and infection control protocols to ensure the highest standards of safety and hygiene in all procedures.
Attend departmental meetings, engage in continuous medical education (CME) sessions, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Educate patients and their relatives regarding treatment regimens, proper medication administration, and strategies for maintaining preventive healthcare.
Actively engage in comprehensive patient evaluations, the formulation of individualized treatment plans, ongoing monitoring of patient progress, and the execution of follow-up care to ensure continuity and quality of treatment.
Responsibilities include meticulously documenting surgical procedures and patient progress to ensure precise record-keeping.
Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention and control standards within the operating theater environment.
Ensure specimens are handled with care and maintain accurate documentation for laboratory analysis.
Provide assistance during urgent surgical procedures as necessary.
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required for this role, along with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a similar position. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools is necessary, and excellent communication skills are a must to collaborate with team members and stakeholders. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) diploma certification is required.
Higher Diploma in Peri-operative Nursing
A Higher Diploma in Peri-operative Nursing provides specialized education in the field of perioperative care, equipping nurses with advanced knowledge and skills for surgical environments. This qualification emphasizes evidence-based practices, patient safety protocols, and the technical aspects of operating room management, including pre-, intra-, and post-operative nursing care. Licensed by the Nursing Council of Kenya, the incumbent is required to hold a valid nursing license.
