Job Purpose:

Deliver the health underwriting mandate by executing precise risk selection, maintaining rigorous pricing discipline, and optimizing portfolio management within designated authority limits. This role is responsible for achieving established loss ratio targets, sustaining high portfolio quality, and ensuring full alignment with the company’s underwriting philosophy.

Key accountabilities encompass overseeing project timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams, ensuring adherence to quality standards, and delivering comprehensive status reports to stakeholders on a consistent basis. Additionally, the role demands proactive problem-solving to address operational challenges, fostering collaboration between departments, and maintaining strict compliance with organizational policies and regulatory guidelines. Proficiency in project management tools and advanced communication skills are essential to facilitate seamless workflow and align team objectives with strategic business goals.

Conduct comprehensive underwriting evaluations for the health insurance portfolio to uphold robust risk selection, maintain high business quality standards, and consistently meet profitability and loss ratio objectives.

Assess health risks and render underwriting determinations—whether to accept, decline, or adjust applications—within the scope of delegated authority, utilizing sound technical expertise and strict compliance with established underwriting protocols.

Evaluate and implement suitable pricing strategies, terms, and conditions by carefully assessing risk exposure to achieve an optimal equilibrium between market competitiveness and disciplined underwriting practices.

Guarantee strict adherence to underwriting standards, credit policies, and delegated authority limits while upholding robust risk governance and audit preparedness.

Monitor designated risks and execute follow-up actions on risk survey recommendations to ensure prompt implementation and ongoing enhancement of portfolio quality.

Collaborate closely with business development, claims, and other internal departments to facilitate the acquisition and retention of business while addressing underwriting-related concerns.

Monitor underwriting performance trends, identify emerging risks or areas of underperformance, and facilitate the implementation of corrective measures.

Maintain meticulous underwriting records and ensure thorough documentation of client details in compliance with both company policies and applicable regulatory standards.

Ensure all actions strictly adhere to the approved Delegated Authority Matrix, and elevate any decisions that fall outside your designated scope for further review.

Support the ongoing enhancement of underwriting processes, streamline turnaround times, and uphold service delivery standards.

Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as directed to further departmental goals and objectives.

Proficiency in the specified field, along with relevant hands-on experience and formal credentials, are essential prerequisites for this role. Candidates should possess a solid educational background, coupled with practical expertise, to effectively execute the outlined responsibilities. The ideal applicant will meet all stipulated qualifications and demonstrate the ability to apply their skills in a professional setting.

A bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or a related insurance discipline is highly desirable.

Hold a recognized professional insurance qualification, such as ACID or INK.

Seeking a candidate with a minimum of six to eight years of professional experience in Health Underwriting, including at least two years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.

We value a strong aptitude for identifying and embracing innovative solutions within the insurance and financial services sectors.

Proven ability to develop comprehensive reports and effectively manage data with precision and efficiency.

Proficiency in data visualization platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or comparable tools is highly desirable.
