To provide strategic leadership and guidance for the organization by ensuring that all operations align with long-term objectives and stakeholder expectations. This position will be responsible for providing timely and proactive legal advice to support the company’s operations in Kenya, ensuring the effective execution of the Legal Function’s strategy and objectives. The role will involve advising entities in Kenya on all legal aspects related to commercial transactions, operational activities, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.

The primary duties associated with this position encompass a diverse range of tasks, including but not limited to strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and meticulous execution of project deliverables. Key responsibilities involve analyzing operational workflows, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing data-driven solutions to enhance productivity and performance. Additionally, the role requires maintaining precise records, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the team. Proficiency in advanced software tools, strong analytical capabilities, and exceptional communication skills are essential to effectively liaise with stakeholders and drive organizational objectives forward.

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive individual to oversee operational, professional, and business functions with precision and efficiency. Assist in formulating and implementing the strategic framework for the Legal function.

Monitor the legislative landscape in Kenya to keep the business informed of relevant legal developments, ensuring adherence to all statutory obligations and mitigating potential compliance risks.

To stay fully informed about regulatory matters and the legal environment in which the business functions, ensure ongoing awareness of developments that may impact operations. Proactively assess how these changes influence the organization and lead the creation of strategic solutions that address compliance challenges and mitigate risks associated with regulatory obligations.

The incumbent will oversee all litigation matters initiated by or against the business, as directed by the Head of Legal, Kenya, by developing and implementing robust case strategies.

Provide assistance to the Head of Legal, Kenya in overseeing entity management and ensuring adherence to sound corporate governance practices for our client’s entities within the jurisdiction.

Engage in collaborative, cross-functional business projects and initiatives to evaluate, track, and proactively identify potential threats, thereby mitigating legal risks while fostering the successful attainment of organizational objectives.

Craft, finalize, and negotiate contractual agreements while refining and establishing standardized formats to enhance operational efficiencies within the Legal sub-function.

Perform essential administrative functions within the department to maintain resource availability, ensure the seamless flow of information, and keep records current.

To enhance the control environment within the Legal department in alignment with the overarching business strategy.

Successfully collaborate across various departments and within the team to ensure all stakeholders remain well-informed while addressing and resolving shared concerns.

Demonstrates strong leadership skills through the ability to guide teams effectively, inspire collaboration, and drive organizational objectives forward with clarity and decisiveness. Exhibits strategic vision by aligning team efforts with broader company goals while fostering a culture of accountability and high performance. To develop innovative initiatives and strategic proposals that align with organizational objectives and core values, ensuring the legal function plays a pivotal role in business operations while serving as both a risk management leader and a trusted business partner.

To identify and engage key internal and external stakeholders relevant to your areas of responsibility, cultivate and leverage these relationships to enhance the efficacy of legal initiatives.

Continuously refine and develop enhanced systems and operational workflows to enhance productivity and minimize expenses.

Educational Background, Professional Experience, and Required Skills:

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is mandatory. A minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a related role is expected. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools is crucial. Exceptional problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills are essential for success in this position.

A distinguished legal qualification obtained from an esteemed academic institution, coupled with demonstrated proficiency in delivering legal counsel to internal stakeholders.

Requires a minimum of three to four years of post-qualification legal experience to perform effectively in this role.

A minimum of two to three years of experience in high-pressure legal environments is preferred.

Proven track record in overseeing and coordinating litigation processes, including case preparation, document management, and strategy development, is essential.

Having familiarity with corporate secretarial functions and board-related procedures (CPSK) is advantageous.

Thorough expertise in local substantive and procedural laws applicable to key operational areas, including Commercial Law, Labour Laws, Land Laws, Factory/Manufacturing Regulations, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) legislation, is required.

Required are exceptional negotiation abilities, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to apply strong strategic, analytical skills and good judgment.

Demonstrates strong self-motivation, leadership capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels, including peers and senior management.
