JOB PURPOSE

The HSS Intern will collaborate on technical, research, coordination, operational, and administrative initiatives within the Health Systems Strengthening Directorate’s core technical frameworks and cross-cutting programs, departments, and projects.

The intern will collaborate on evidence generation and technical documentation, facilitate stakeholder coordination, and assist with program implementation and knowledge management processes, providing valuable exposure to health systems strengthening initiatives, policy development, and technical assistance projects across Africa.

Oversee and execute a diverse range of duties critical to the role, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Regularly assess workflows to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness, while maintaining meticulous attention to detail. Provide assistance in conducting literature reviews, desk reviews, and evidence synthesis within Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) thematic domains such as Primary Health Care (PHC), Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMN CAH), Social Determinants of Health (Doh), health workforce, and health financing.

Contribute to the preparation of technical documentation and foundational materials essential for project execution, client engagements, and strategic initiatives.

Assist in the creation and refinement of technical briefs, presentations, reports, and knowledge products.

Assist in creating and compiling evidence to support HSS projects while documenting key insights and lessons learned for future reference.

Technical writing, reporting, and documentation require the creation and maintenance of clear, accurate, and comprehensive technical content to support product development, user understanding, and compliance with standards. These roles involve producing a variety of materials, including user manuals, API documentation, release notes, and internal reports, while ensuring consistency with established guidelines and best practices. Strong proficiency in technical communication, attention to detail, and the ability to distill complex information into accessible formats are essential. Collaboration with subject-matter experts, developers, and cross-functional teams is necessary to ensure accuracy and relevance. Additionally, familiarity with industry standards, tools such as Markdown or Confluence, and version control systems is often required.

Responsibilities include preparing and refining workshop reports, meeting summaries, concept notes, technical documents, and presentations.

Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical abilities, proficiency in information systems, and the capacity to troubleshoot issues promptly. Additionally, they should possess excellent communication skills to convey complex information clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience in managing documentation, implementing knowledge-sharing tools, and optimizing processes is essential for success in this position.

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial analysis, reporting, or a comparable role. Strong proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and advanced formulas, is essential, while familiarity with ERP systems and financial software is highly advantageous. Exceptional analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex financial data are critical. Excellent communication skills are necessary to present findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels. A commitment to continuous learning and adaptability in a dynamic work environment is expected. Professional certifications such as CPA or CFA are preferred but not mandatory.
