THE OPPORTUNITY
The Railway Coordinator oversees the procurement and scheduling of rail wagons in partnership with Kenya Railways Corporation, guaranteeing prompt availability, seamless loading and shunting processes, and punctual deliveries to clients.
This role encompasses resolving cargo discrepancies, such as damaged or broken bags, while collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders to reduce delays. Additionally, it requires maintaining precise records to uphold the efficiency and dependability of rail logistics operations.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and coordinate the securing of rail wagons in alignment with established loading schedules and customer-specific delivery requirements, in collaboration with Kenya Railways Corporation.
Oversee the prompt scheduling of empty wagons, arrange loading operations, and manage the shunting of loaded wagons for timely dispatch.
Develop and oversee wagon movement schedules while proactively identifying and escalating any delays or bottlenecks to ensure efficient operations.
Work collaboratively with rail yard teams, customers, and internal stakeholders to maintain seamless loading and dispatch operations.
Ensure meticulous verification of cargo quantities and confirm the precision of all shipping documentation and waybills before any dispatch.
Monitor shipments from dispatch to final delivery, verify proof of delivery, and address any discrepancies or exceptions encountered along the way.
Conduct thorough examinations of damaged or missing cargo, such as broken bags, to identify underlying causes, and facilitate the resolution of claims while implementing corrective measures.
Maintain meticulous and current documentation, encompassing wagon allocations, movement logs, manifests, and reconciliation reports.
Maintain complete adherence to rail operational procedures, safety standards, and company policies at all times.
Evaluate operational performance metrics—including turnaround times, delays, and losses—and propose strategic improvements aimed at boosting efficiency while minimizing expenditures.
Leverage incident investigations to spearhead ongoing enhancement efforts throughout rail operations.
Perform routine on-site inspections at rail yards, loading facilities, and customer premises to oversee operational activities and address any arising challenges.

Experience collaborating with organizations like Kenya Railways or comparable rail systems would be beneficial.
Possesses in-depth expertise in various wagon classifications, rail transportation operations, particularly shunting methodologies, and the preparation and management of rail documentation.
Experienced in managing cargo claims, reconciling loss and damage incidents, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including internal teams, customers, and rail operators.
