Role Summary

The English Teacher will craft dynamic, inquiry-driven lessons to cultivate students’ competencies in reading, writing, speaking, and critical reasoning. This position entails designing and executing lessons aligned with IB standards, evaluating progress through criterion-referenced assessments, and nurturing a profound appreciation for language and literary works. Additionally, the teacher will facilitate well-rounded student growth, encourage autonomous thought, and foster a supportive, equitable classroom atmosphere.

The role may also incorporate Head of Department responsibilities, offering strategic leadership, overseeing curriculum development, and fostering ongoing enhancements in educational practices and student outcomes.

Key responsibilities include overseeing daily operations to ensure efficiency and alignment with company objectives, managing and motivating teams to achieve performance targets, and collaborating across departments to streamline processes and drive innovation. Additionally, the role involves analyzing performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement, as well as maintaining compliance with industry regulations and internal policies. The position requires strong leadership skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a results-driven mindset to foster a high-performance culture. Proficiency in strategic planning, budget management, and stakeholder engagement is essential, along with a proven track record in delivering measurable business outcomes.

Develop and implement rigorous English lessons that fully comply with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP) academic standards.

Enhance students’ proficiencies in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and literary analysis.

Encourage the development of analytical reasoning, innovative thought processes, and a broad understanding of varied literary works and viewpoints.

Craft innovative, tailored educational opportunities that cater to the varied skill levels and learning needs of students.

Incorporate student-centered and inquiry-driven instructional methodologies to foster active learning and engagement.

Design and administer formative and summative assessments aligned with IB criteria to evaluate student progress effectively and ensure a comprehensive understanding of learning outcomes.

Deliver prompt, actionable feedback while meticulously documenting student progress to ensure precision and clarity in records.

Facilitate student readiness for both internal and external assessments, encompassing IB examinations.

Foster a classroom environment that prioritizes safety, inclusivity, and engagement for all students.

Serving as a Homeroom Tutor, you will provide essential academic guidance and pastoral care to students, ensuring their overall development and well-being.

Support the development and facilitation of extracurricular initiatives, including debate societies, theatrical productions, and literary clubs.

Maintain regular and meaningful interactions with parents via conferences and various communication channels.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum plans and contribute to school-wide initiatives.

The requirements

Seeking candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least three years of hands-on experience in a comparable role. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, as is the ability to analyze complex data sets and generate actionable insights. Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail are required to ensure accuracy and efficiency in all tasks. Excellent communication abilities are necessary to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Prior experience in project management or leadership is a plus.

A recognized university must confer a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, with a specialization in English, Literature, or a closely related field.

Candidates presently based in Kenya must possess valid Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) registration.

Proven success in instructing within diverse, multicultural, and international educational settings, coupled with a deep grasp of student-centered and inquiry-driven teaching methodologies.

Requires 2–3 years of direct teaching experience in either the IB Middle Years Program or IB Diploma, or an equivalent curriculum, ideally within an international educational environment.
