About the role

The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of expert technical support for a cross-border initiative aimed at strengthening digital skills and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities. This critical position will also advance the cause of workplace and labor market disability inclusion across seven nations in East, West, and Southern Africa.

The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will be responsible for ensuring the program’s design and execution aligns with Sight savers’ thematic and program strategies, while also spearheading the development of pioneering, inclusive methodologies that foster systemic transformation and deliver sustainable outcomes.

This full-time position requires the employee to work on-site from the Sight savers office in Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi, five days each week.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties encompassing daily operations, strategic planning, and team leadership to ensure organizational efficiency and goal attainment. Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and performance metrics to optimize workflows and enhance productivity. Collaborate with cross-functional departments to align objectives, resolve conflicts, and drive cohesive project execution. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and professional growth through mentorship, feedback, and continuous improvement initiatives. Represent the organization in external engagements, including stakeholder meetings, industry events, and community outreach programs to strengthen partnerships and brand reputation. Manage budgets, resources, and risk mitigation strategies to maintain financial stability and operational resilience. Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards while upholding the highest standards of corporate governance.

Offer strategic technical direction for a cross-regional initiative aimed at enhancing digital skills and employment opportunities for young individuals with disabilities, while simultaneously fostering disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to align efforts and achieve program objectives with excellence and maximum impact.

Spearhead groundbreaking initiatives to propel innovation, meticulously designing and executing strategic projects that elevate the quality, applicability, and long-term sustainability of Sight savers’ operations.

Facilitate collaborative initiatives spanning research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications, engaging with both internal colleagues and external collaborators to achieve shared objectives.

As a senior representative for Sight savers, you will serve as a key subject-matter expert in digital inclusion and the digital economy, engaging actively in national, regional, and international networks, conferences, and sector platforms.

The position requires travel commitments totaling up to 12 weeks annually.

Seeking a candidate with a strong background in relevant competencies and prior professional exposure. The ideal applicant will possess demonstrated expertise in specified areas, along with a proven track record of successful project execution. Experience in similar roles or industries is highly preferred, as is familiarity with industry-standard tools and methodologies. The position requires meticulous attention to detail, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

The GTL will offer deep expertise in Africa’s digital and IT employment and labor market landscapes, encompassing skills’ development, training initiatives, and pathways to employment. They will demonstrate a strong dedication to inclusive growth and an unwavering commitment to promoting the rights of individuals with disabilities through forward-thinking, high-impact programming.

As a strategic collaborator, you will work closely with cross-functional teams and global offices to drive impactful outcomes. This position requires international travel, totaling up to 12 weeks annually, to facilitate program execution and foster meaningful stakeholder relationships.

The candidate must possess a minimum of three years of relevant experience in the specified field, demonstrating a proven track record of success. A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is required, along with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Familiarity with industry-standard software and tools is essential, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Additionally, the ideal applicant will exhibit attention to detail, adaptability to changing priorities, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Essential:

A master’s degree or higher—ideally a PhD—in digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a related field is required, or equivalent professional experience.

Requires a solid grasp of contemporary discourse and challenges in AI and digital technologies, as well as their broader impact on skills’ development, employment opportunities, fair labor practices, and labor market dynamics within African and Global South settings.

A strong ability to lead, build networks, and engage with stakeholders, combined with diplomatic finesse and tactful communication, is required.

Experience working on TVET systems.

Seasoned professionals with a proven track record of collaborating with key labor market stakeholders—particularly private sector entities, with a focus on digital industries—to drive advancements in employment and foster decent work conditions.

Demonstrated expertise in cross-functional collaboration and seamless integration within multidisciplinary teams.

Skilled in designing, refining, and tailoring technical guidance documents and programming utilities to meet evolving needs.

Demonstrating a firm dedication to fostering disability inclusion, promoting equality, and advancing justice within digital and employment environments.

Capable of and prepared to undertake international travel for as many as 12 weeks annually.

Desirable:

Advocacy experience focused on marginalized communities, with a particular emphasis on disability inclusion, is essential.

Fluent command of the French language is required.
