The Global Technical Lead (GTL) will spearhead the delivery of expert technical support for a cross-border initiative aimed at strengthening digital competencies and employment prospects among young individuals with disabilities. Central to this role is the responsibility to advocate for enhanced disability inclusion in both workplace environments and labor markets across seven nations spanning East, West, and Southern Africa.

The Program Manager will oversee the design and execution of the initiative, ensuring full alignment with Sightsavers’ thematic and program strategies. In this capacity, the role will be instrumental in developing forward-thinking, inclusive methodologies that foster systemic transformation and deliver lasting, sustainable results.

This role requires full-time, on-site presence, with the position holder working from the Sight savers office in Abuja, Accra, Lusaka, or Nairobi five days a week.

Ensure all duties are fulfilled with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. Oversee daily operations to maintain seamless workflow and productivity. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on project goals and deliverables. Monitor performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement strategic solutions. Prepare detailed reports to track progress and communicate outcomes to stakeholders. Provide guidance and support to team members to foster professional development and team cohesion. Maintain compliance with organizational policies and industry regulations. Manage resources effectively to optimize project outcomes and budget adherence.

We will offer strategic technical guidance for a multinational initiative aimed at enhancing digital skills and employment prospects for young individuals with disabilities, while simultaneously promoting greater disability inclusion in workplaces and labor markets throughout East, West, and Southern Africa.

Work collaboratively with Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to align efforts and maximize the achievement of program objectives through cohesive, high-impact delivery.

Spearhead innovative initiatives by designing and implementing new strategic projects that elevate the quality, pertinence, and long-term sustainability of Sight savers’ mission-driven efforts.

You will collaborate on interdisciplinary initiatives spanning research, innovation, policy development, advocacy, and communications, partnering with internal colleagues and external stakeholders to drive collective impact.

Serving as a senior representative for Sight savers, this role entails leveraging expertise in digital inclusion and the digital economy to engage with national, regional, and global networks, conferences, and sector platforms.

The incumbent may be required to undertake travel amounting to up to 12 weeks annually.

They will serve as a strategic collaborator, bringing experience in cross-functional teamwork and global engagement. This position requires approximately 12 weeks of international travel annually to enhance program execution and build key stakeholder relationships.

The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications and possess the necessary skills to fulfill the responsibilities of this role effectively. Applicants should have a proven track record in their field, along with the educational background and professional experience relevant to the position. Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are essential requirements. Additionally, proficiency in industry-specific tools, software, or methodologies may be required, depending on the nature of the role. Essential:

A master’s degree (or higher, with a PhD preferred) in digital economy, digital policy, digital or economic sociology, political economy, development studies, global labor studies, or a closely related field—or equivalent professional experience—is required.

Professionals must exhibit a clear grasp of contemporary discussions and challenges in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, as well as their impact on skills’ development, employment opportunities, fair labor practices, and labor market dynamics within African and Global South contexts.

Professionals should demonstrate a proven track record of designing, implementing, and scaling digital skills programs, as well as vocational training initiatives, with a strong emphasis on facilitating smooth transitions into employment. This experience should particularly highlight work conducted in regions of the global South, where challenges in workforce development and digital inclusion are most pronounced.

Professionals with a background in NGO or non-profit environments, particularly those who have overseen programs funded by donors, are encouraged to apply.

Demonstrated expertise in collaborating effectively with diverse labor market stakeholders—particularly private sector entities—to enhance employment opportunities and promote fair and equitable work standards.

Proficient in the latest advancements and trends in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, with a keen awareness of their transformative effects on employment patterns and labor markets in both African and Global South settings.

Fluency in both spoken and written English is essential, enabling the creation of comprehensive reports and the effective delivery of presentations.

Proven expertise in leadership, networking, and stakeholder engagement, coupled with exceptional diplomatic and tactful communication abilities.

Experience working on TVET systems.
