The Senior Electrical Systems Specialist leads technical direction in power quality management, electrical system optimization, and the integration of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This position facilitates project implementation, commissioning, and troubleshooting while establishing standardized electrical solutions to guarantee dependable, efficient, and high-standard installations throughout the company’s expanding portfolio.
FUNCTIONS
Perform comprehensive power quality assessments and diagnostics to detect and address issues associated with power factor discrepancies, harmonic distortions, voltage variations, and operational instability within electrical systems.
Evaluate and refine Power Factor Correction (PFC) systems and capacitor banks to eliminate overcompensation and reduce utility penalties.
Develop and evaluate electrical distribution boards, single-line diagrams, and protection schemes tailored for solar PV and BESS projects.
Oversee electrical commissioning processes and provide guidance to installation teams throughout system energization and fault diagnosis phases.
Configure and fine-tune the inverter and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) control parameters to maximize operational efficiency while maintaining seamless grid integration.
Conduct protection coordination studies and validate the operational integrity of electrical protection devices.
Design and implement standardized electrical panel designs while managing fabrication processes to maintain stringent quality and uniformity standards.
Analyze and address harmonic distortion, voltage imbalance, and other power quality issues that negatively impact system performance to ensure optimal operation.
Deliver comprehensive technical assistance to project teams throughout the design, installation, commissioning, and operational stages.
Establish comprehensive internal engineering standards, procedures, and best practices specifically for electrical systems to ensure consistency, safety, and efficiency in all engineering operations.

A degree in Electrical Engineering or a specialization in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is required.
Applicants possessing a Higher National Diploma (HND) in either Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering, accompanied by significant hands-on experience in the field, may be deemed eligible for consideration.
Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (ELK), the Kenya Engineering Technician Registration Board (METRO), or another recognized professional organization is considered advantageous.
A minimum of a decade of hands-on experience in electrical power systems, industrial installations, renewable energy, or comparable disciplines is required.
Proven expertise in integrating Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is required.
Proficient in conducting power quality assessments, implementing power factor correction solutions, and ensuring effective protection coordination systems.
Proficiency in electrical commissioning processes and troubleshooting methodologies is required.
Proven expertise in electrical design and analysis software, including AutoCAD Electrical, TAP, and similar tools, is required.
Possesses familiarity with applicable IEC standards and utility interconnection mandates.
Analytical prowess, exceptional communication abilities, and demonstrated leadership capabilities are essential for this role.
