Position Summary

The ADT Africa Regional Partner possesses extensive experience in private equity within emerging markets, with a strong focus on regulated financial institutions pioneering cutting-edge digital financial services tailored to MSMEs, smallholder farmers, and low-income households.

A successful candidate will bring operational knowledge of how financial institutions can leverage technology to scale, and will collaborate with ADTx’s Operating Partner, Accion Advisory, Accion’s financial inclusion advisory team, and other advisory groups to help develop digitization strategies for companies, liaising with portfolio company shareholders, boards and management teams to ensure alignment.

The Africa Regional Partner will oversee an Investment Analyst, with the scope of this role tailored to the portfolio’s size and regional opportunities. Investments in Africa are projected to constitute approximately 25% of the total investible capital, potentially encompassing co-investments by limited partners.

Collaborating directly with the Managing Partners, the Africa Regional Partner oversees the comprehensive investment lifecycle for the Africa portfolio, spanning from deal origination to execution and eventual exit, while also providing global support to the team as required. The primary investment processes involve:

Evaluating potential equity investment opportunities that align with ADT’s commitment to impact investing and its strategic focus on digital transformation.

Developing and managing comprehensive financial models, projections, and valuations to evaluate equity investment and divestment prospects, while providing reports to limited partners.

Conducting thorough deal analysis and delivering strategic investment recommendations to the Investment Committee.

Spearhead negotiation and finalization of deals, encompassing legal documentation, while ensuring strict adherence to ESG policies throughout the process.

Overseeing the equity portfolio and devising and implementing responsible commercial exit strategies for portfolio companies.

Collaborate with the digital transformation team to devise a digitization strategy for prospective target companies and assist in executing it to drive value creation.

Deliver strategic guidance to portfolio companies by fostering appropriate partnerships, securing new debt and equity financing, and advising on key decisions—with a particular emphasis on ESG and digital transformation initiatives.

Represent ADT on the boards of portfolio companies as warranted by circumstances.

Develop and nurture co-investment consortia while cultivating robust, mutually beneficial partnerships with co-investors.

Deliver continuous assistance to the Operations and Finance teams regarding portfolio company valuation and reporting responsibilities.

Collaborate closely with Managing Partners to cultivate a compelling brand and foster a positive organizational culture, ensuring AIM consistently aligns with industry-leading practices.

Facilitate investor relations and conduct due diligence for prospective investors.

You will serve as AIM’s representative in the African market and on a global scale, engaging in external professional development initiatives and knowledge-sharing efforts, both independently and in collaboration with Action as needed.

The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications: a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, at least five years of professional experience in a comparable role, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in industry-specific software, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Prior leadership experience and a proven track record of achieving measurable results in past positions are highly preferred.

With over 15 years of specialized investment expertise in private equity, particularly within financial institutions and fintech, this role demands a proven ability to source, structure, and successfully execute transactions across Africa, culminating in effective exits.

Professionals must possess comprehensive sector knowledge in financial services and fintech, encompassing operating models, regulatory frameworks, and competitive landscapes within African markets.

Demonstrates a track record in developing and implementing regional investment strategies, encompassing the creation of proprietary pipelines, the detection of emerging trends, and the alignment of investment initiatives with overarching organizational and impact-driven goals.

Partnering with financial institutions to generate value, you will design and implement digital strategies that advance financial inclusion, leveraging a deep comprehension of innovations in this sector; entrepreneurial experience is considered advantageous.

Demonstrates a proven track record of guiding and shaping high-level decisions made by the board and senior leadership, acting as a reliable strategic advisor focused on organizational growth and operational enhancements.

Advanced analytical and investment judgment, complemented by substantial expertise in spearheading due diligence initiatives, structuring transactions, and overseeing portfolio performance to achieve dual financial and impact-driven objectives.

Demonstrated skill in developing and engaging diverse networks among colleagues, key stakeholders, and key decision-makers to foster collaboration and achieve impactful outcomes.

Proven leadership skills, demonstrated through mentoring and developing investment professionals, as well as fostering a high-performance, collaborative team culture across multiple geographic locations.

Must demonstrate proficiency in working independently with strong self-direction while actively engaging and aligning with a globally distributed, matrix-structured team environment.

Highly effective communicator with executive presence, capable of influencing diverse stakeholders and representing the ADTx team and AIM externally; proven experience developing and delivering senior-level presentations and investment materials.

A master’s degree in business administration or finance is required.
