Job Summary
The appointed Director of the Digital Scholarship Centre will oversee the deployment of digital media services, advocate for innovative media technologies, and manage the creation of multimedia resources to support AKU faculty, students, and staff. Additionally, the role will involve actively advancing the university’s core objectives in teaching, learning, and research.
Oversee daily operations and ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. Manage a team of professionals, providing guidance, support, and fostering a collaborative work environment. Implement and maintain processes to enhance productivity and streamline workflows. Monitor performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed. Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align efforts and maximize efficiency. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and best practices.
Oversee the entire operational workflow of the Digital Scholarship Centre while spearheading strategic initiatives to foster growth, innovation, and long-term viability.
Oversee the archiving and preservation initiatives for Aga Khan University’s scholarly publications and research outputs.
Offer comprehensive ICT assistance for digital research platforms, library technologies, and information systems, such as RFID solutions and the Library Management System.
Facilitate the adoption and utilization of innovative media technologies to enhance pedagogical methods, scholarly pursuits, and academic investigations.
Oversee the upkeep and management of the AKU Library’s electronic databases, verifying their precision, ease of access, and timeliness.
Craft professional graphic design, branding, and publicity materials tailored specifically for AKU publications, events, and marketing campaigns.
Oversee the ongoing enhancement and upkeep of the institutional digital repository, internal intranet platforms, and web portals for the Aga Khan University libraries across East Africa.
Create and manage Lib Guides, online learning resources, and digital courses to support academic programs effectively.
Seeking a highly motivated individual to fill this role, candidates must possess a minimum of three years of relevant experience along with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Strong proficiency in [specific software/tools] is essential, along with excellent communication and organizational skills. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Problem-solving capabilities and adaptability to changing priorities are also required. Knowledge of industry best practices and compliance standards is a must.
A master’s degree in Information Systems, a related field, or an equivalent qualification in a pertinent discipline is required.
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Multimedia Technology, or an equivalent discipline is required.
A minimum of five years of professional experience within a dynamic academic institution is required.
Experienced professionals with a track record of overseeing digital repositories and/or institutional archives, ideally using Digital Commons, are encouraged to apply.
Proven expertise in developing online courses and e-learning materials, coupled with strong skills in graphic design and web development software.
Proficiency in utilizing Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and online discovery/search platforms is required, along with practical experience in their operation.
A strong command of cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation, is essential.
Proven proficiency in academic communication and research support services is required.
Skilled in designing library guides, subject-specific resources, and research support materials to facilitate user access to information.
Proficient in both macOS and Windows operating systems.
