An application specialist at Pirates is responsible for designing and evaluating new products, validating innovations for practical commercial implementation, and delivering customized solutions to address precise customer needs, particularly within industrial bakery, pâtisserie, and chocolate production environments.
What you do
Providing expert technical guidance to industrial bakeries and pâtisseries to enhance operational efficiency and product quality.
Devise innovative solutions to address customer requirements and facilitate the seamless integration of products and concepts into their operations.
Establishing and nurturing enduring, mutually beneficial relationships with designated accounts.
Assisting the Director of Research and Development in advancing research initiatives and spearheading the creation of innovative products.
Collaborating with clients to identify their unique requirements and jointly developing customized solutions.
Spearheading initiatives to implement both existing and innovative products within clients’ operational environments.
Translate Pirates Group’s New Product Development (NPD) guidelines to align with the Kenya market, facilitating the seamless introduction of new products through hands-on test baking, provision of samples, and delivery of training sessions.
Proactively assessing new business opportunities while mitigating risks to existing portfolios, this role supports the business development team in achieving their sales objectives.
Collaborating within a cross-functional team alongside local colleagues from Technical, Marketing, and Sales, or engaging with Pirates’ international and diverse global network, you will leverage collaborative working tools and data analytics to drive alignment and insights.
Stay abreast of current baking trends and emerging innovations while maintaining a deep understanding of the entire Pirates product portfolio.
Forge enduring partnerships with customers while cultivating and sustaining a robust network of ingredient and equipment specialists, both within Pirates and across external circles.
What we expect from you
A bachelor’s degree in food science or a closely related discipline is required.
With a proven track record spanning five years, you have demonstrated extensive hands-on expertise within the industrial bakery sector.
You possess a genuine enthusiasm for culinary arts and a steadfast commitment to prioritizing ethical and sustainable practices for the benefit of the planet and generations to come.
A comprehensive grasp of pastry automation systems, analytical methodologies, and new product development (NPD) processes is essential, along with expertise in ingredient selection to craft and enhance nutritious yet appealing food offerings.
Possesses a thorough understanding of the roles and behaviors of ingredients, additives, and fundamental principles of food chemistry.
Proficiency in utilizing professional tools, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, spreadsheets, and presentation software, is essential. Strong computer skills are required to effectively operate these applications and support day-to-day responsibilities.
Experienced professionals in process and equipment operations, along with finished goods management, are sought. The position demands a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and machinery, as well as proficiency in overseeing finished product quality and handling.
Customer-focused professional with a keen aptitude for identifying and capitalizing on business growth opportunities.
Proficient in transforming inventive concepts into compelling, market-ready products while adhering to the structured processes of an industrial manufacturing setting.
