Job Purpose:

Reporting directly to the Head of Employee Relations, Performance & Wellness, this position plays a key role in developing and implementing people strategies designed to foster a workplace that is equitable, inclusive, and motivating.

This role encompasses fostering strong employee relations, maintaining adherence to legal standards, managing performance effectively, and promoting a values-driven organizational culture.

Oversee and execute essential duties including managing project timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring adherence to company policies and industry regulations. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and drive growth. Monitor performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions. Prepare and present detailed reports to stakeholders, summarizing progress, challenges, and recommended solutions. Collaborate with senior leadership to align departmental goals with organizational objectives, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Act as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, addressing inquiries and resolving issues in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards while maintaining a high standard of professionalism in all interactions.

Employee Relations: We are seeking a dedicated professional to oversee employee relations, ensuring a harmonious work environment and fostering open communication between staff and management. The role involves addressing workplace inquiries, resolving conflicts, and promoting policies that align with organizational values. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution expertise, and a deep understanding of labor laws and HR best practices. Responsibilities include conducting investigations, mediating disputes, and implementing initiatives to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction.

Assist in formulating, clarifying, and disseminating HR policies in accordance with Kenyan Labour Laws, regulatory obligations, and the Bank’s established values and governance principles.

Oversee employee relations functions, with responsibility for addressing disciplinary matters, grievances, workplace behavior concerns, and appeals, while maintaining fairness, consistency, and adherence to internal policies and regulatory standards.

Ensure meticulous and verifiable documentation of employee relations cases in partnership with HR Business Partners and operational leadership, adhering strictly to regulatory and record-keeping standards.

Drive organizational transformation efforts—such as restructurings and branch realignments—while maintaining high levels of employee engagement, ensuring uninterrupted operations, and adhering to all applicable regulatory standards.

Offer prompt, actionable advice to managers to ensure employee-related issues are addressed fairly, consistently, and in full compliance with regulations, reducing potential operational and reputational risks.

Serve as a panel member during disciplinary hearings, guaranteeing compliance with due process, procedural fairness, and accurate documentation in accordance with organizational policies and relevant labor laws.

Oversee interactions with employee representatives and workplace committees, cultivating open dialogue, mutual trust, and cooperative partnerships to uphold a productive and regulation-compliant workplace.

Maintain disciplined records with the utmost confidentiality by overseeing the ER tracker, ensuring all information remains current and easily retrievable for audits and critical decision-making.

Collaborate in the regular assessment and revision of the HR Manual to maintain consistent adherence to employment laws, regulatory standards, and emerging trends in the banking industry.

Performance management involves the systematic process of evaluating, monitoring, and enhancing employee performance to align with organizational goals. This includes setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, identifying development opportunities, and addressing performance gaps through coaching or corrective measures. Additionally, it encompasses conducting performance appraisals, tracking progress against defined metrics, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the team.

Facilitate the organization and dissemination of performance review schedules and related communications.

Assist employees and managers in implementing the performance management process.

Monitor performance development and guarantee that evaluations are conducted punctually.

Accurate performance data must be maintained, and performance reports need to be generated accordingly.

Support the establishment of objectives, gather performance insights, and coordinate review-related processes.

Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all established HR policies and procedures.

The role involves assisting with the implementation of the Bank’s Employee Wellness Program, with a focus on seamless coordination of wellness initiatives aligned with the approved Wellness Calendar. Responsibilities include collaborating with accredited wellness service providers, organizing scheduled activities, fostering employee participation, and maintaining prompt, professional communication with staff.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute key inclusion and employee engagement strategies—such as diversity forums and employee resource groups—by managing logistics, disseminating communications, and establishing feedback systems to drive program success and amplify overall impact.

Facilitate the planning and implementation of employee engagement initiatives, including end-of-year gatherings and additional forums designed to foster collaboration, alignment, and a cohesive organizational culture.

Co-create and execute employee recognition programs across the organization and individual departments, encompassing formal awards and peer-driven recognition efforts, aimed at fostering a culture of high performance.

Create informative and compelling communication materials focused on employee wellness programs, policy updates, and engagement initiatives, ensuring they meet established internal communication standards.

Achieve defined performance objectives in alignment with the Bank’s HR strategy, balanced scorecard, and individual performance targets, thereby ensuring measurable impact and accountability.

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, with preference given to candidates holding an advanced degree in education, curriculum development, or a related discipline. Additionally, a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in academic leadership, instructional design, or a closely related area is essential.

A bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business administration, or a closely aligned discipline is required.

Professional qualifications, affiliations with recognized professional bodies, and a history of published work are required.

A valued member of the International Human Resources Management team.

A Chartered Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation would be considered an asset.

Minimum of five years of hands-on experience in a relevant field is mandatory for consideration.

Seeking candidates with three to four years of hands-on HR generalist experience, with particular expertise in employee relations, performance management, and wellness initiatives.

Demonstrates a strong grasp of Kenyan Labor Laws, ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory regulations and employment standards.

Proficiency in managing disciplinary matters and collaborating with employee representatives or line managers is required.

Proven track record in spearheading or facilitating employee engagement, recognition, and wellness programs.

The required competencies for this position include a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work collaboratively within a team environment. Additionally, experience with industry-specific software or tools is preferred, as is a solid understanding of project management methodologies. Proficiency in both verbal and written English is essential, and familiarity with relevant regulations or standards is advantageous. Prior experience in a similar role is highly desirable, along with a demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development.
