POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role involves overseeing the ongoing medical care of outpatients while providing mentorship and guidance to junior medical staff. The Medical Officer leads the assessment and follow-up of outpatients and collaborates closely with primary surgeons to address any critical changes in a patient’s condition, ensuring appropriate treatment and management decisions are made.

Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in accordance with the Medical Officer’s defined scope of clinical practice as needed.
Analyze pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports, then convey key findings to the primary surgeon.
Diligently document, within the patient’s medical record, comprehensive details including their medical history, examination findings, proposed management strategies, required investigations, and implemented actions.
Collaborate in managing patient care coordination efforts to enhance the efficiency of patient movement throughout the healthcare facility.
Evaluate both outpatient and inpatient cases in collaboration with attending residents and/or lead surgeons to ensure comprehensive assessment and coordinated care.
Initiate and oversee the diagnostic process and treatment plan for the patient’s condition, which involves requesting essential radiology and pathology examinations, administering suitable medication, and coordinating referrals for specialist consultations as needed.
Deliver on-the-spot instruction and mentorship to junior medical staff as part of their ongoing training and development.
Facilitate clear and compassionate conversations with patients and/or their immediate family members regarding their health status and treatment progress.
The Medical Officer must maintain a valid and current license at all times throughout their employment.
Overseeing a range of essential clinical support services, this role encompasses Pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, biomedical engineering, and nutritional services.
Oversees the performance of all clinical officers within the facility, ensuring adherence to established protocols and standards of care.
Engage in departmental quality management initiatives aligned with Hospital Quality standards to ensure adherence to established protocols and continuous improvement efforts.
Execute other duties as assigned, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and in alignment with organizational objectives. Handle additional responsibilities that may arise, maintaining high standards of performance and professionalism in every undertaking. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, along with at least three years of professional experience in a related industry. Preference will be given to candidates holding advanced degrees or possessing specialized certifications pertinent to the position. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered in lieu of strict adherence to credential requirements.
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or an equivalent medical degree is required.
A licensed medical practitioner registered with the Medical Council of Kenya, holding the designation of a medical officer.
A background in leadership or management training, or practical experience in such roles, would be considered a valuable asset.
