"Girls Not Brides: Ending child marriage worldwide."
Girls Not Brides was launched in September 2011 by The Elders, an independent group of global leaders dedicated to peace and human rights, as part of their initiative to highlight harmful practices that impede the progress of girls and women and to mobilize efforts toward creating a world free from child marriage. In 2013, Girls Not Brides became an independent charitable organization. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mrs. Graça Machel, and Sonata Alidade serve as Global Champions and advocates for ending child marriage.
As a global partnership, Girls Not Brides unites over 1,300 civil society organizations across more than 100 countries in the shared mission to eradicate child marriage and empower girls to achieve their full potential. Members span regions including Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. The organization upholds the belief that every girl deserves the opportunity to shape her own future and that eliminating child marriage is key to fostering a safer, healthier, and more prosperous world for all. Through collective action, Girls Not Brides members elevate child marriage on the global agenda, deepen understanding of the solutions needed to end it, and advocate for the legal, policy, and programmatic changes that will transform the lives of millions of girls worldwide.
