Position Overview and Objective

CHAI Kenya is seeking a skilled technical expert to collaborate with the WEAPON project team, focusing on the execution of medical liquid oxygen systems. This role involves overseeing the construction of concrete plinths, as well as the installation and commissioning of cryogenic bulk liquid oxygen storage tanks across selected healthcare facilities in Kenya, which are at different phases of implementation.

The project encompasses a comprehensive range of duties and essential responsibilities designed to achieve specified objectives. The Technical Assistant will undertake, among other duties, the following responsibilities:

Examine and interpret site layouts and engineering drawings pertaining to cryogenic liquid oxygen (LOX) installations to ensure accurate comprehension and alignment with project requirements.

Collaborate with the installation contractor and facility management to establish and confirm delivery and installation schedules.

Conduct thorough evaluations of risk assessments pertaining to installation processes to verify adherence to regulatory standards and organizational protocols.

Ensure strict compliance with CGA code of practice CP 36 standards regarding the storage of cryogenic liquids at user premises.

This role involves overseeing the construction of concrete plinths to ensure adherence to specifications, timelines, and safety standards. Deliver comprehensive technical supervision and stringent quality assurance throughout the construction phase of concrete plinths designated for LOX tank installations.

Ensure civil works comply with approved structural drawings and meet load-bearing specifications for cryogenic tank weights.

Ensure adherence to specified soil conditions, anchoring protocols, drainage standards, and grading specifications throughout all phases of the project.

Record project development status, pinpoint discrepancies, and promptly report problems requiring intervention.

This phase ensures all components function as intended, documentation is complete, and stakeholders are fully briefed on operational protocols. Responsibilities include conducting final inspections, troubleshooting discrepancies, and obtaining necessary approvals to confirm readiness for transition. It also entails preparing comprehensive handover packages, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and facilitating knowledge transfer to end-users or maintenance personnel.

Support the commissioning process by assisting with the initial fill, conducting leak and pressure testing, and performing functional checks on the liquid oxygen (LOX) system.

Ensure system performance aligns with established specifications, including flow rates, delivery pressures, and purity levels.

Provide on-site instruction to facility personnel regarding the safe operation, monitoring, and emergency protocols for cryogenic LOX systems.

Compile comprehensive handover documentation, specifically encompassing operations manuals and maintenance guides.

Verify that all safety and hazard signs are properly installed and maintained.
