The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) was established in 2002 with an ambitious mission: to save millions of lives affected by HIV/AIDS in the developing world by significantly expanding access to antiretroviral treatment. At its inception, many considered this objective unattainable due to the fragile state of health systems in low-income countries and the prohibitive cost of essential drugs and diagnostic tools. CHAI took a pioneering role, collaborating closely with governments and partners to reduce treatment expenses and strengthen local health infrastructure, ensuring that life-saving therapies reached millions. Since then, CHAI has continued to set equally bold goals, from rapidly scaling up pediatric AIDS treatment to achieve parity with adult care within an unprecedented timeframe, to expediting the deployment of innovative vaccines.
