JOB PURPOSE:
The position will proactively deliver timely legal counsel to operations in Kenya while effectively implementing and executing the Legal Function’s strategy and objectives. It will involve advising entities in Kenya on all legal matters related to commercial, operational, governance, and regulatory aspects of the business.

Assist in formulating and implementing the Legal department’s strategic initiatives and operational plans.
Monitor and assess the legislative landscape in Kenya to ensure the business remains fully informed of its legal obligations and maintains compliance with applicable regulations.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of regulatory matters and the governing framework impacting business operations, while spearheading the creation of strategic solutions that empower the organization to effectively navigate and overcome regulatory challenges.
Overseeing all litigation initiated by or against the business, as directed by the Head of Legal for Kenya, while developing and implementing effective case strategies.
Provide assistance to the Head of Legal, Kenya, in overseeing entity management and verifying adherence to robust corporate governance standards for the client’s entities within the country.
Engage actively in collaborative business projects and initiatives across departments to evaluate, oversee, and proactively identify potential risks, thereby mitigating legal exposures and supporting the attainment of organizational goals.
Draft, negotiate, and finalize contractual agreements while establishing standardized formats to enhance operational efficiencies within the Legal department.
Perform essential administrative functions within the department to maintain the availability of necessary resources, facilitate the uninterrupted exchange of information, and ensure records are kept current.
Strengthen the Legal department’s control environment to align with overarching business objectives.
Demonstrate strong cross-functional collaboration and internal communication skills to ensure all stakeholders remain well-informed while collaboratively addressing shared challenges and resolving issues.

Candidates must possess the requisite educational credentials, professional experience, and key competencies to excel in this role. A distinguished law degree from a well-regarded academic institution, coupled with demonstrated expertise in delivering precise legal counsel to internal stakeholders.
With a minimum of three to four years of post-qualification legal experience, candidates are expected to demonstrate a solid foundation in legal practice.
Preferred candidates will possess a minimum of two to three years of experience within high-pressure legal environments.
With a proven track record in overseeing legal disputes and court proceedings, candidates should possess hands-on experience in litigation management. This includes coordinating with attorneys, clients, and court personnel, as well as managing case documentation, deadlines, and procedural requirements to ensure efficient resolution of legal matters.
Proficiency in company secretarial duties and board-related matters (CPSK) is highly advantageous.
A comprehensive understanding of pertinent local substantive and procedural laws is required, including but not limited to Commercial Law, labor regulations, land legislation, factory and manufacturing compliance standards, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) laws.
Accomplished negotiation abilities alongside exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential to excel in this role.
