Basic job summary:

The incumbent will facilitate the preparation and administration of payroll, guaranteeing precise and punctual salary disbursements, statutory deductions, and meticulous record-keeping for all university employees. This position ensures adherence to labor and tax regulations while upholding strict confidentiality and precision in payroll functions.

Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, managing project timelines, and ensuring adherence to company policies. Additionally, the role involves coordinating team efforts, monitoring performance metrics, and identifying opportunities for process improvement. The position requires collaborating with cross-functional departments, facilitating communication, and resolving operational challenges. Incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, compiling reports, and presenting findings to senior management. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining compliance with industry regulations and fostering a productive work environment.

Handles tasks related to processing and managing payroll accurately and efficiently. Ensures timely and precise salary disbursements, compliance with tax regulations, and adherence to company policies. Maintains payroll records, resolves discrepancies, and provides support to employees regarding payroll-related inquiries. Requires proficiency in payroll software, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

Gather and validate payroll inputs such as timesheets, overtime records, allowances, and deductions to ensure accuracy and compliance with established policies.

Collaborate on the compilation and processing of monthly payroll data for all staff and faculty members.

Accurately input payroll information into the designated payroll system, verifying each entry for correctness and precision.

Ensures full adherence to statutory regulations and accurately processes required deductions in accordance with legal obligations.

Compute and manage statutory deductions, including PAYE, NAIF, NSSF, and pension contributions, in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Compile statutory returns and facilitate prompt remittance to the designated authorities.

Provide support in developing payroll schedules to facilitate audit and compliance verification processes.

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date payroll records is essential to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies. This role involves systematically documenting employee compensation, tax deductions, benefits allocations, and other financial transactions related to payroll processing. Attention to detail is critical to verify data accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and safeguard confidential information. Additionally, the position requires adherence to established deadlines for reporting and record-keeping to support audits and financial audits. Strong organizational skills and proficiency in payroll software are necessary to efficiently manage records and streamline workflows.

Accurately maintain and update payroll records for all employees to ensure precision and compliance with relevant regulations.

Monitor leave balances, benefits utilization, and employee status updates that impact compensation, such as promotions or terminations.

Maintain secure and organized filing of all payroll documentation.

Responsible for preparing and verifying accurate payroll reports and conducting thorough reconciliations to ensure compliance with financial policies and regulatory standards.

Assist in the reconciliation of payroll accounts with the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and alignment between financial records.

Prepare payroll summaries, payslips, and any necessary reports according to established requirements.

Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reconciliations and audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with established standards.

Responsible for delivering comprehensive administrative assistance and addressing inquiries, this role entails managing a variety of inquiries from staff members, ensuring timely and accurate responses to their requests. The position requires proficiency in handling routine support tasks, maintaining organized records, and providing clear, concise information to facilitate efficient operations. Experience

We are seeking candidates with a minimum of one to three years of experience in the finance sector.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel is required, with a strong ability to manipulate data, create complex spreadsheets, and utilize advanced functions such as LOOKUP, pivot tables, and macros.

Demonstrates exceptional precision and meticulousness in all aspects of work, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in every assigned task.

Professional qualifications encompass specialized education, certifications, and relevant work experience essential for fulfilling job responsibilities effectively. Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field, along with industry-specific certifications when applicable. Demonstrated expertise through prior roles, advanced technical skills, and a proven track record of achieving measurable outcomes are strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal abilities and adherence to professional standards are also required to ensure seamless collaboration and high-quality performance.

Candidates must either be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) finalist, hold an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ARCA) qualification, or possess an equivalent certification, which can be in progress or completed.
