Job Summary
Reporting directly to the ICT Manager, the Database Administrator oversees all functions essential to sustaining an optimal database environment. This role encompasses the design, implementation, and upkeep of database systems, alongside the establishment of policies and protocols governing database management, security, maintenance, and usage. Additionally, the Database Administrator provides comprehensive training to employees, ensuring proficient database management and utilization.
Responsibilities include managing daily operations, overseeing team performance, and ensuring adherence to company policies. The role requires coordinating projects, monitoring deadlines, and maintaining accurate records. Additionally, you will be responsible for communicating with stakeholders, resolving issues, and providing reports to leadership. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are essential, along with proficiency in relevant software systems.
Professionally install, configure, administer, and maintain database management systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Monitor database performance metrics and identify opportunities for efficiency enhancements. Implement strategic optimization measures to enhance overall system responsiveness and reliability.
Oversee the administration of database backup, restoration, and recovery procedures. Perform routine validation of backup and restoration operations while maintaining robust high-availability protocols and comprehensive disaster recovery measures for essential database systems.
Implement robust security controls for databases, manage user access rights, and establish comprehensive auditing protocols. Additionally, oversee and monitor privileged access within the database environment to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
Modifying the database structure as required, based on specifications provided by application developers.
Execute database optimization initiatives, including tuning, indexing, and capacity planning. Provide support for database upgrades, migrations, and patch management activities.
Responsibilities include compiling and producing diverse reports by executing database queries to fulfill ad hoc data retrieval needs.
Investigate and resolve incidents and problems affecting systems and databases, serving as the escalation point for technical support regarding database-related issues.

Design and deploy secure infrastructure and database systems in accordance with industry-leading security best practices.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, engineering, or mathematics, is required. Minimum of five years of professional experience in a related discipline is necessary. Proficiency in specific programming languages, frameworks, or tools as specified by the hiring manager is essential. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are critical. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are also required. A proven track record of delivering high-quality projects within deadlines is expected. Familiarity with industry standards and best practices is a must.
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable discipline is required.
Seeking professionals with a minimum of five years of relevant experience, including at least three years specifically in database administration. Prior involvement in the FSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) sector would be highly beneficial.
Preferred qualifications include certifications or hands-on experience in Oracle Database Administration Certified Professional, Microsoft SQL Server Certifications, or Red Hat Certified System Administrator credentials.
Proficiency in maintaining core insurance systems and databases would be a valuable asset.
