The ideal candidate will be responsible for carrying out the following duties and responsibilities:

Offer objective legal counsel and assessments to every department within the Bank, delivering independent legal opinions and strategic guidance to proactively identify and minimize potential legal exposures.

Oversee litigation involving the Bank, both directly and through external legal counsel, while also evaluating, analyzing, and interpreting applicable laws, regulations, and judicial rulings.

Provide assistance with contract negotiations and administration, encompassing the examination of contractual agreements for the Bank, offering solutions for non-performing contractors, and creating, evaluating, and adjusting contractual instruments to facilitate and enhance diverse business operations.

Advise the pertinent departments regarding the enhancement of securities and documentation, oversee the annual securities audits, and provide guidance on the corrective measures required.

Provide expert legal advisory services in a cost-efficient and expeditious manner to the Bank’s credit recovery division, ensuring robust regulatory and litigation risk management throughout the non-performing loan recovery process.

Develop and lead staff training initiatives focused on critical legal issues impacting the Bank, ensuring relevant legal requirements are effectively communicated to all departments.

Engage in risk management discussions relevant to legal considerations, examining risk reports to effectively oversee critical risks throughout the risk management cycle, and conduct research on recent legal trends while drafting briefs for submission to the Head of Legal Services.

Seeking candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong communication skills are essential. The ideal candidate must demonstrate problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively. Knowledge of industry-specific software is a plus. Must exhibit a proactive approach, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning. Excellent organizational and time management skills are required to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.

The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from an accredited university, along with at least five years of legal experience, preferably within a prestigious institution. A demonstrated expertise in litigation management, contract negotiations, and conveyance is essential.

An esteemed candidate must hold an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya practicing certificate in good standing. Possession of a Certified Public Secretary (CPS) qualification will be considered an additional asset.

A solid understanding of the legal framework governing banking operations and broader business/commercial practices in Kenya would be beneficial.

Demonstrates exceptional conceptual and analytical prowess alongside meticulous documentation and persuasive presentation abilities, enabling effective influence and negotiation across diverse organizational levels.
