POSITION OVERVIEW:
The role involves overseeing the ongoing medical care of outpatients and providing guidance and mentorship to junior medical staff. The Medical Officer oversees the initiation and assessment of outpatient care, maintaining communication with lead surgeons regarding any critical changes in a patient’s condition to obtain expert advice on treatment and management protocols.
Performs essential duties including maintaining accurate records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the Medical Officer’s defined scope of clinical practice as needed.
Conduct a thorough evaluation of pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports, subsequently relaying key findings to the primary surgeon for informed decision-making.
Accurately document the patient’s medical history, examination findings, management plans, investigations conducted, and actions taken in their medical record.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to streamline patient care coordination, thereby enhancing operational efficiency within the healthcare facility.
Conduct comprehensive evaluations of both outpatient and inpatient cases in collaboration with assigned residents and/or lead surgeons.
Initiate and oversee the diagnostic process and treatment plan for patients, which involves requesting essential radiology and pathology examinations, administering suitable medications, and coordinating specialist referrals as needed.
Deliver brief, practical educational sessions for junior medical staff to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge in real-time settings.
Facilitate clear and compassionate discussions with patients and/or their immediate family members to convey information about their health status and treatment progress.
The Medical Officer must maintain a valid and active license at all times.
Oversees various clinical support services, such as pharmacy operations, laboratory procedures, radiology services, biomedical equipment maintenance, and nutritional care programs.
Overseeing the clinical officers employed at the facility constitutes a primary responsibility.
Engage in departmental quality management initiatives in accordance with established Hospital Quality standards.
Oversee a range of additional responsibilities as needed to ensure smooth and efficient operations, including assisting with administrative tasks, coordinating team activities, maintaining office equipment, and addressing ad-hoc requests from management or colleagues.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as business administration, finance, or accounting, is required. A minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial management, budgeting, or related roles is essential. Professional certifications, including CPA, CFA, or CMA, are highly desirable. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP), and advanced Excel capabilities are mandatory. Experience in financial reporting, auditing, or strategic planning is preferred.
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or an equivalent medical degree is required.
Registered with the Medical Council of Kenya as a medical officer.
A leadership and management course or prior experience in a leadership role would be considered advantageous.
