The Role

Oxfam in Africa seeks an accomplished Strategic Communications Advisor to bolster the Director’s external outreach and strengthen Oxfam’s messaging across Africa and internationally.

This pivotal position sits at the core of Oxfam’s advocacy efforts, driving transformative communications. Your mandate will involve designing and executing strategic messaging to elevate the Director’s public presence, guaranteeing that their interactions—spanning international summits to media engagements—are compelling, cohesive, and fully aligned with Oxfam’s mission.

You will collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team, Media and Communications colleagues, and partners throughout the confederation to develop and implement strategic plans, craft impactful messaging, and execute high-priority engagements—all while maintaining robust alignment among advocacy, communications, and overall organizational strategy.

This position is accountable to the Oxfam in Africa Director and maintains a secondary reporting line to the Media and Communications Lead.

What we’re looking for

A seasoned communications specialist with a proven expertise in media relations, public engagement, and strategic advocacy is sought. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional writing and editorial capabilities, adept at distilling intricate policy matters into engaging and persuasive stories tailored for senior stakeholders.

You excel at cultivating and maintaining meaningful relationships with key stakeholders, including senior officials in governments, international institutions, civil society, and global partners. Demonstrating adaptability, you thrive in dynamic, high-pressure settings while effectively juggling competing priorities without compromising precision or thoroughness.

A visionary strategist capable of recognizing opportunities to amplify Oxfam’s influence and optimize the impact of leadership engagements. You embody a deep commitment to social justice, gender equality, and Oxfam’s core mission, driven by a values-based approach. Proficiency in English and French is mandatory, with Portuguese as an additional asset.
