Purpose

The Senior Accountant in Asset Management is tasked with overseeing the accounting treatment for all assets, administering the fixed assets register, and mitigating risks associated with asset management. Additionally, the role involves managing accounting entries for accruals and prepayments, ensuring tax compliance and filing obligations are met, and preparing financial statements and disclosures in accordance with the applicable International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The position further encompasses the reconciliation of accounts payable and expenses, the implementation and monitoring of internal controls, coordination with external auditors, and participation in budgeting and forecasting activities in alignment with organizational guidelines.

Latitude operates under the direct supervision of the Finance Manager and maintains close collaboration with Projects, Operations, and other internal departments. Additionally, the role involves regular interaction with external stakeholders, including suppliers and auditors.

This position plays a critical role in upholding financial integrity by ensuring the precise and comprehensive recognition of assets, expenses, and accruals. It significantly influences the quality of financial reporting, audit preparedness, and stakeholder contentment by facilitating the timely completion of audits and maintaining robust internal controls.

Facilitates the development and implementation of budgeting and forecasting processes to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of tasks and obligations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and standards. Provide strategic oversight to key initiatives, fostering collaboration and efficiency across teams to achieve measurable outcomes. Implement and monitor processes to optimize performance, maintain compliance, and drive continuous improvement. Serve as a primary liaison for stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and resolving escalated issues. Prepare and present detailed reports on progress, risks, and resource allocation to senior leadership. Support cross-functional projects by aligning resources, timelines, and deliverables to meet strategic priorities. Ensure adherence to industry regulations, internal policies, and quality benchmarks throughout all operations.

Handle all accounting processes for fixed assets, intangible assets, and IFRS 16 leases in full compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Perform fixed assets verification and apply asset tagging to maintain real-time accuracy of the asset register in coordination with the operations team.

Responsible for monitoring and reconciling accruals and prepayments while ensuring their recognition aligns precisely with established accounting policies and the appropriate timing.

Oversee the asset management function, encompassing the maintenance of the asset register, development of schedules, preparation of reports, and execution of reconciliations.

Prepare meticulously organized schedules and sample documentation to ensure readiness for audits, covering assets, accruals, prepayments, and tax-related items. Provide essential support for budgeting initiatives, financial forecasting, and management reporting processes.

Ensure adherence to tax regulations by accurately filing VAT and WHT, performing monthly reconciliations, and maintaining up-to-date internal ledger records.

Coordinate asset risk management through the prompt renewal of insurance coverage for all assets.

Perform treasury operations and ensure regulatory compliance for the parent company.

Record and defer commissions in accordance with contractual provisions and anticipated revenue projections.

Execute any additional duties delegated by senior leadership as needed.

Seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, along with 3+ years of experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, along with experience in full-stack development. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are required. The ideal applicant will demonstrate excellent communication skills, adaptability to evolving technologies, and a commitment to continuous learning. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining scalable software solutions, conducting code reviews, and ensuring adherence to best practices in software development.

Hard skills required for this role include proficiency in data analysis, with a strong command of tools such as Excel, SQL, and Python, along with experience in data visualization platforms like Tableau or Power BI. Familiarity with statistical software, such as R or SPSS, is also advantageous. In terms of software development, candidates should possess expertise in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, C++, or JavaScript) and be comfortable working with version control systems like Git. Knowledge of cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, is highly desirable, as is experience with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch. Additionally, a solid understanding of database management and query optimization is essential.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a closely related discipline from an accredited and well-regarded institution is required.

A member in good standing of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (IC PAK) or the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ARCA).

Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and possesses a working knowledge of the United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), which is considered beneficial.

Seeking candidates with at least six years of hands-on experience in a high-volume financial setting, with an emphasis on asset management and regulatory compliance.

Proficiency at an advanced level in Microsoft Excel is highly desirable.

Proficiency in utilizing QuickBooks and Asset Management systems is required, along with practical experience in their implementation and operation.

Proficiency in Oracle represents an additional asset for this role.

Leadership capabilities and expertise in project management will be advantageous for this role.
