Daily verification of equipment inventories is required to confirm availability and operational status. Any detected malfunctions must be immediately reported to the Bio-Medical Technician or Unit Manager for prompt resolution.

To achieve financial objectives, oversee expenditures to maintain adherence to the allocated budget while ensuring prompt and precise billing for pharmaceuticals and services rendered. Proactively identify, investigate, and escalate any suspected fraudulent behavior or criminal conduct to the appropriate authorities for immediate action.
Collaborate closely with the Lead Nurse to ensure full implementation of internal audit recommendations and to achieve favorable outcomes in future audits.
Read, understand, and maintain familiarity with all systems, policies, and procedures detailed in the Hospital Manual, with particular emphasis on those governing the delivery of medical services—such as admission and discharge protocols, nurse documentation requirements, ward equipment and supply management, and emergency response guidelines.
All sentinel incidents and events must be documented and submitted within 24 hours through the designated reporting systems.
Maintain and enforce adherence to infection control protocols as outlined in the hospital’s official manual, ensuring compliance with infection control bundles, including SSI, VAP, CACTI, and CLA BSI, where relevant.
Oversee the performance of patient attendants in accordance with their designated job responsibilities.
Engage actively in ward rounds and obtain handover reports from the outgoing nurse at the end of each shift.
Evaluate the patient’s advance care directives and family expectations regarding their treatment objectives.
Maintain meticulous records of patients’ personal belongings and ensure their secure storage throughout their stay.

Establishing and maintaining a prioritized nursing care plan that addresses patient needs systematically is essential. This involves accurately documenting and evaluating patient conditions to ensure timely and appropriate interventions.
Ensure the emergency trolley is meticulously organized and readily accessible for resuscitation efforts by maintaining a fully stocked inventory of medications and supplies. Promptly remove and report any damaged equipment to prevent delays in critical care. A comprehensive checklist must be maintained, updated on the 1st and 16th of each month, and revised as necessary to uphold operational readiness.
Provide physicians and consultants with timely updates on patient progress and critical values as soon as they become accessible.
Execute all invasive nursing interventions utilizing strict aseptic protocols to maintain a sterile field and prevent infection.
Daily entry and timely submission of unit-specific data are required.
Ensure all pertinent consultants have thoroughly outlined procedures and secured appropriate consent from relevant parties.
Prepare official checklists for all patients in advance of procedures, including those conducted in theater, radiology, and renal units.
Maintain strict adherence to patient privacy and confidentiality protocols in accordance with established policies at all times.
Administering medications constitutes a fundamental responsibility, requiring precise dosage calculations, adherence to prescribed schedules, and thorough documentation of each administration.
You must consistently apply the 10 rights of medication administration—including verifying the correct patient, medication, dosage, route, time, documentation, client education, assessment, evaluation, and respecting the client’s right to refuse treatment—at all times.
Promptly submit all new drug orders to the pharmacy and administer STAT doses within 30 minutes of receipt.
Ensure all D.D.A. medications are securely stored, and the drug register is meticulously maintained in accordance with unit-specific protocols.
Ensure all unused medications are reimbursed promptly without delay.
All verbal prescriptions must be documented and countersigned by the attending physician within 24 hours, in accordance with hospital protocol.
Demonstrates adherence to the Nursing Council of Kenya’s established professional standards for patient care and treatment.
Client satisfaction—encompassing patients, consultants, and other stakeholders—is achieved by delivering high-quality care, maintaining clear communication, providing timely responses, and promptly escalating unresolved concerns to the Unit Manager while ensuring follow-through and measurable improvements.

Person Specification
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an equivalent nursing diploma is required for this position.
A Higher Diploma in Neonatal or Pediatric Critical Care Nursing (NICU/PICK) is an essential qualification for this role.
A current and active license from the Nursing Council of Kenya is required.
Individuals must possess current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLAS) certifications.
With a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in a NICU or PICK setting, candidates should bring a strong foundation in neonatal and pediatric critical care nursing.
