Your Role

The Senior Communications Officer for Campaigns at the Africa Regional Office (ARE) will spearhead the conception and execution of cohesive, audience-centric communications campaigns designed to elevate the foundation’s strategic objectives throughout Africa.

The incumbent will oversee comprehensive campaign planning and implementation to enhance confidence in the foundation’s brand and advance priority initiatives. In a matrixed organizational structure, you will collaborate extensively with teams in the ARE, Communications Division, and Global Policy & Advocacy (GPA) to guarantee campaigns are informed by insights, rooted in local contexts, and aligned with global objectives. This position demands the capacity to lead cross-functional teams without formal authority, leveraging influence to unite stakeholders around a cohesive campaign strategy.

This position entails crafting and executing campaign strategies centered on audience engagement, developing detailed creative and content briefs, mapping audience journeys, and optimizing distribution channels to maximize reach. The role requires close collaboration with various teams—such as advocacy leads, country communication leads, content, channel, and media teams—to ensure strategic alignment and seamless execution. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Measurement and Insights team to establish key performance indicators, facilitate message and creative testing, and derive actionable insights to enhance overall campaign effectiveness.

The role will be situated in Nairobi, Kenya, and will operate under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Content, Campaigns, and Digital for Africa.

What You’ll Do

Develop and execute comprehensive campaign strategies while ensuring integrated planning across all relevant channels and initiatives to maximize impact and alignment with organizational objectives.

Craft cohesive campaign strategies that align with ARE priorities, ensuring each initiative is audience-centric and guided by a compelling narrative and well-defined objectives.

Transform audience insights, research findings, and ongoing monitoring into strategic, executable campaign plans.

Develop comprehensive channel, content, and engagement strategies across owned, earned, and paid media channels, collaborating closely with key internal stakeholders to drive alignment and maximize impact.

Create campaign briefs and strategic planning frameworks to direct seamless collaboration across all departments.

Develop and oversee budgets at the campaign level.

Shape ARE’s overarching communications and campaign framework by contributing to strategic planning processes and establishing sustainable operating rhythms.

The position demands expertise in A/B testing, hypothesis formulation, and iterative optimization strategies to refine processes, products, or services based on measurable insights. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations are essential for success in this role.

Collaborate closely with the Measurement & Insights teams to establish key performance indicators and develop comprehensive learning agendas to campaign initiatives.

Leverage data, analytics, and audience insights to enhance strategies and drive measurable performance improvements.

Conduct comprehensive post-campaign evaluations and document key insights to shape strategic planning for future initiatives.

Develop and strengthen the evidence base for campaign strategies to inform and enhance decision-making processes.

Your Experience

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, marketing, or an equivalent discipline is required.

With a proven track record spanning 8–10 years in senior roles, the ideal candidate will have led and shaped integrated communications or marketing campaigns across global, regional, or multi-country landscapes, preferably within high-energy and rapidly evolving settings such as agencies or in-house teams.

Exceptional skill in converting audience insights into well-defined, strategic initiatives and campaigns.

Demonstrates a track record of effectively combining paid, owned, and earned media channels to execute successful campaigns.

Proficient in digital, social, and media landscapes spanning diverse markets across Africa.

Collaborates effectively and influences stakeholders across a matrixed organizational structure.

You must possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills, coupled with the capability to distill complex information into clear, accessible insights tailored to varied audiences.

Proficiency in collaborating with external partners, agencies, and stakeholders is required.

Strong project management capabilities and a proven track record of effective execution, demonstrated through seamless coordination across diverse global locations, cross-functional teams, and external partners.

Proficiency in measurement methodologies, data analytics, and the evaluation of campaign performance is required.

A high level of proficiency in both written and spoken English is required.
