Job Objective/Purpose

As a Vaccine Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating vaccination programs for school-going children and hospital employees. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the safe, ethical, and compliant delivery of immunizations in accordance with Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines, occupational health standards, and hospital policies. Additionally, you will oversee learner participation in vaccination services and work closely with other stakeholders to maintain effective communication and collaboration. This position requires excellent project management skills, strong knowledge of immunization delivery, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and manage vaccination programs for schoolchildren at both in-hospital and authorized offsite locations. Plan and implement strategies to ensure efficient coordination of these initiatives.

Collaborate with educational institutions, family members or guardians, and public health officials to arrange immunization appointments and obtain necessary approvals.

Administer vaccinations to children in an approachable, developmentally suitable, and secure way.

Manage the cold chain for vaccines, ensuring proper storage, handling, and accountability throughout the process.

The objective of this role is to oversee vaccine administration and monitor various metrics related to its effectiveness and usage, including vaccination rates, waste reduction, and the occurrence of adverse events following immunization.

Oversee the precise recording, analysis, and tracking of all immunization procedures to maintain comprehensive records and generate insightful reports, while simultaneously implementing follow-up actions in a timely manner.

Collaborate closely with the Human Resources department and Occupational Health to manage and direct employee vaccination programs effectively.

Oversee adherence to suggested employee vaccinations as per Ministry of Health recommendations.

Ensure the privacy and security of employee vaccination data by maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, while also generating periodic reports as required.

Provide assistance in implementing vaccination programs for employees prior to employment, during regular health screenings, and in response to outbreaks.

Offer educational sessions on vaccines as well as provide guidance and support to staff members and interested parties when necessary.

Maintain stringent compliance with child protection protocols at all times throughout school-related vaccine drives.

Before undertaking any immunization procedures, it is imperative that fully-informed consent has been acquired from the individual involved.

Maintain the privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and security of individuals receiving vaccinations throughout the entire process.

Monitor and oversee occurrences pertaining to vaccinations, adverse events following immunization (Aegis), and safety matters.

Collaborate with the Ministry of Health (MOH), county health agencies, educational institutions, and fellow governmental organizations to execute vaccination campaigns and related public health endeavors.

Generate reports that ensure adherence to regulations, assess program effectiveness, and provide insights on vaccination initiatives.

Facilitate compliance with quality control standards and guidelines in connection to immunizations administration services through evaluations and appraisals.

Person Specification

A candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in one of several related fields such as nursing, Public Health, or any other healthcare discipline.

A current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya is required for this position.

As a healthcare professional seeking to work in a dynamic and fast-paced medical environment, you will be required to hold updated certifications for Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). These credentials are essential for providing quality patient care and ensuring that you can respond effectively to life-threatening situations. In addition to maintaining your certification, you must also possess strong communication skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development. You will be responsible for performing routine medical procedures, monitoring patients’ vital signs, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.

Possessing an ATLAS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) certification would be a valuable asset.

A minimum of three (3) years’ worth of professional experience is required in the field of healthcare within a medical institution setting.

A background in managing healthcare programs focused on long-term patient care is highly desirable.

Exceptional ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals and groups through skilled interaction and dialogue exchange.
