Responsible for accurately retrieving prescription orders as they are processed through the pharmacy system. Ensures all prescriptions are promptly gathered, verified, and prepared for the next steps in fulfillment, maintaining efficiency and adherence to established protocols. May involve coordination with healthcare providers or patients to clarify any discrepancies or missing information before finalizing retrieval.
Compounding pharmacists prepare customized medications tailored to individual patient needs by combining, mixing, or altering ingredients to produce unique dosage forms, such as liquids, creams, or capsules, that are not commercially available. This role requires a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharma) degree, active pharmacist license, and proficiency in sterile and non-sterile compounding techniques. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of USP <795>, <797>, and <800> standards, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance protocols. Responsibilities include assessing prescription orders, consulting with healthcare providers, ensuring medication safety, maintaining accurate documentation, and adhering to infection control and safety guidelines. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are essential for success in this position.
Professionals in this role must stay informed about recent pharmaceutical advancements and the accessibility of new medications, ensuring their knowledge aligns with current industry standards and regulatory updates.
Prescriptions are obtained from physicians for processing and fulfillment.
Compiling patient prescriptions with accuracy and efficiency is required.
Confirm insurance details and prescription validity to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
Maintains pharmacy inventory through systematic checks of pharmaceutical stock to assess current supply levels, forecasts required medications and supplies, processes and accelerates orders, verifies deliveries upon receipt, and removes expired or outdated drugs.
Ensures a secure and hygienic pharmacy environment by adhering to established procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Ensures the safety of both patients and staff by strictly following established infection control policies and protocols.
Organizes medications for dispensing by interpreting medication orders and prescriptions, generating labels, determining quantities, and preparing intravenous solutions along with other pharmaceutical therapies.
Accurately documents and files physicians’ orders and prescriptions to ensure meticulous record-keeping and compliance with established protocols.
Delivers medications to patients and departments to ensure their availability.
Compiles reports by gathering and synthesizing relevant data into concise summaries.
Report adverse drug reactions and substandard pharmaceutical products to the pharmacy and poisons board as required.
Applicants must meet the following essential criteria to be considered for the position: a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, at least three years of professional experience in a comparable role, and proficiency in industry-standard software tools. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills are mandatory, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Holder of a pharmacy diploma from Kenya Medical Training College or any other accredited medical institution.
Registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board in compliance with regulatory standards.
A valid professional license in the relevant field is required to perform the duties of this position.
Possesses three years of hands-on experience within a high-volume dispensing environment, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in medication distribution.
