Daily verification of equipment inventory is conducted to confirm availability and operational status. Any observed malfunctions must be promptly reported to the Bio-Medical Technician or Unit Manager.
Ensure the financial viability and sustainable growth of the unit by implementing strategic initiatives, analyzing performance metrics, and identifying opportunities to enhance revenue streams and reduce operational costs. This role requires a proactive approach to financial management, including regular budget reviews, forecasting, and reporting to stakeholders to support informed decision-making and drive continuous improvement.

To ensure comprehensive operational readiness, you must thoroughly review, comprehend, and remain proficient in all systems, policies, and procedures detailed in the Hospital Manual, with particular emphasis on those governing the delivery of medical services—including admission and discharge protocols, nurses’ report documentation, ward equipment and supply management, and emergency response guidelines.
All sentinel incidents and events must be documented promptly and reported within 24 hours utilizing the designated tools.
Maintain and enforce adherence to infection control protocols outlined in the hospital manual, ensuring compliance with infection control bundles, including SSI, VAP, CACTI, and CLA BSI, as applicable.
Supervise patient attendants in accordance with their established roles and responsibilities.
Engage collaboratively in ward rounds and receive detailed handover reports from the oncoming nurse following each shift change.
Conduct a comprehensive consultation with the patient’s next of kin to clearly explain and align on the patient’s goals of care.

The emergency trolley must be systematically arranged for efficient use during resuscitation efforts, with all drugs and supplies fully stocked and any damaged equipment immediately removed and reported. A detailed checklist is required and should be updated on the 1st and 16th of each month, as well as whenever necessary.
Medical professionals, including doctors and consultants, should be promptly notified of any patient updates or critical test results as soon as they become available.

Daily, input unit-specific data with promptness and accuracy to ensure timely updates.

Administering medications to patients forms a critical component of the healthcare process, requiring precise adherence to prescribed dosages, timelines, and protocols. This responsibility ensures therapeutic efficacy while minimizing potential risks and adverse reactions. Healthcare professionals must maintain meticulous documentation of drug administration, including the type, dosage, route, and timing, to support patient safety and continuity of care. Additionally, they should monitor patients for any signs of adverse effects or interactions, promptly reporting concerns to the prescribing provider as necessary.
Ensure strict adherence to the ten fundamental principles of drug administration, including the accurate identification of the patient, correct medication selection, precise dosage calculation, appropriate route of administration, timely delivery, thorough documentation, provision of client education, comprehensive assessment, ongoing evaluation, and respect for the client’s right to refuse treatment.
All newly prescribed medications must be forwarded to the pharmacy without delay, with STAT doses administered within a 30-minute timeframe.
Ensure the secure storage of D.D.A. drugs and maintain an accurate, up-to-date drug register in compliance with unit-specific protocols.
Refund all unused medications without delay to ensure prompt resolution and customer satisfaction.
All verbal prescriptions must be signed by the responsible physician within 24 hours in accordance with hospital policy.
Demonstrates adherence to the Nursing Council of Kenya’s established professional standards in delivering patient care and treatment.
Ensure exceptional client satisfaction—including patients, consultants, and other stakeholders—by delivering outstanding care quality, maintaining clear and proactive communication, and providing timely feedback. Address and escalate unresolved issues promptly to the Unit Manager, ensuring appropriate follow-up and continuous improvement in service delivery.

Person Specification
Bachelor’s or Diploma in Nursing Science is required.
A Higher Diploma in Neonatal/Pediatric Critical Care Nursing (NICU/PICK) is an essential qualification for this role.
Possession of a current, active license from the Nursing Council of Kenya is required.
Maintain current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLAS).
With a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in the NICU or PICK setting, candidates should possess a strong clinical background in neonatal or pediatric intensive care nursing.
Proven ability to build strong professional relationships and convey ideas clearly, coupled with meticulous attention to detail, a commitment to achieving measurable outcomes, and steadfast dependability.
