A prominent multinational consumer goods company is seeking a Legal Assistant to strengthen its legal team in This, Kenya.

This position will proactively deliver timely legal counsel to operational teams in Kenya while effectively implementing the Legal Functional strategy and objectives. It will involve advising entities in Kenya on all legal matters, including commercial, operational, governance, and regulatory business aspects.

Play a key role in shaping and implementing the Legal department’s strategic initiatives.

Monitor and analyze Kenya’s legislative landscape to ensure the business remains fully informed of its legal obligations and maintains compliance.

Maintain a comprehensive grasp of regulatory matters and the governing framework within which the business functions, while spearheading the creation of strategic solutions that empower the business to effectively address and navigate regulatory limitations.

The incumbent will handle litigation matters initiated by or against the business as directed by the Head of Legal, Kenya, developing and implementing effective case strategies.

Provide assistance to the Head of Legal, Kenya in overseeing entity management and maintaining adherence to strong corporate governance standards across all of our client’s entities in Kenya.

Engage in collaborative, cross-functional business projects and initiatives to evaluate, oversee, and proactively identify potential threats, thereby mitigating legal risks and fostering the successful attainment of organizational objectives.

Prepare, negotiate, and assess contractual documents while designing and implementing standardized formats to enhance operational efficiencies within the Legal sub-function.

Perform essential administrative functions within the department to maintain resource availability, facilitate uninterrupted information flow, and ensure records remain current.

Enhance the control environment within the Legal department to align with the organization’s strategic objectives.

To collaborate seamlessly across teams and departments, ensuring all stakeholders remain informed and engaged while proactively identifying and resolving shared challenges.

Proven leadership skills are essential, with a demonstrated ability to guide teams toward achieving organizational objectives. Candidates must exhibit strong decision-making capabilities and the capacity to motivate and inspire colleagues. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are critical for fostering collaboration and driving performance. Your role involves developing innovative initiatives and proposals that align with the company’s strategic objectives and core values, positioning the legal function as a central pillar of the business while serving as a trusted advisor in risk management and strategic decision-making.

Identify and engage both internal and external stakeholders relevant to the assigned areas of responsibility, fostering these connections to enhance the impact of legal initiatives.

Regularly enhance and develop systems and operational processes to enhance efficiency and lower expenses.

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; candidates with an MBA or CFA designation will be given preference. A minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or strategic planning is essential. Proficiency in advanced Excel, financial modeling, and ERP systems is mandatory. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with exceptional attention to detail, are critical. Excellent communication abilities to convey complex financial information clearly are also necessary. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development and ethical financial practices.

Holders of a distinguished law degree from an accredited academic institution, equipped with the expertise to deliver precise legal counsel to internal stakeholders.

Requires a minimum of three to four years of practical legal experience following qualification.

A minimum of two to three years of experience in high-pressure law firms is strongly preferred.

Proven track record in managing litigation matters, including case assessment, strategy development, and procedural compliance, is required. The role demands expertise in coordinating with legal teams, overseeing document production, and ensuring adherence to deadlines and regulatory standards. Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail are essential for navigating complex legal disputes and mitigating risks effectively.

Proficiency in company secretarial practice and board-related matters, particularly with CPSK experience, is strongly preferred.

Requires comprehensive expertise in applicable local substantive and procedural legal frameworks, including Commercial Law, labor regulations, land legislation, factory and manufacturing compliance standards, and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements.

Exceptional proficiency in negotiation, written communication, and verbal articulation is essential for this role. Demonstrated ability to convey ideas effectively, engage in persuasive discussions, and craft clear, concise written materials is a key requirement.

Proven capacity to employ robust strategic and analytical capabilities, coupled with sound judgment, is essential.

Demonstrates strong independent decision-making skills, effectively guides and motivates team members, and collaborates seamlessly with colleagues at all organizational levels.
