To articulate the core objectives of this role, the position is designed to facilitate and oversee key operational activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategic initiatives. The ICT Assistant – Network Administration position reports directly to the Head of ICT and is tasked with evaluating information risks while coordinating remediation efforts for identified vulnerabilities related to IT security and risks across Kenya Tea Packers. This role involves collaborating with the Database Administrator, Business Intelligence, and Reporting teams to manage ICT system support. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining secure network connectivity both within and between Keep offices, as well as ensuring the integrity and security of all company systems.

Oversee a comprehensive range of duties and responsibilities to ensure operational excellence and strategic alignment, including developing and implementing initiatives that drive business growth and efficiency. Analyze performance metrics and market trends to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation, while managing cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives. Collaborate with senior leadership to establish and execute long-term goals, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal policies. Serve as a key liaison between departments to facilitate seamless communication and foster a collaborative work environment. Additionally, prepare detailed reports, presentations, and strategic plans to support decision-making processes at all levels of the organization.

Evaluates connectivity KPIs—availability, utilization, throughput, and latency—to ensure optimal network performance. Selects, installs, configures, and tests ICT equipment through meticulous planning and execution.

Monitor and administer all communications while addressing networking issues by proactively implementing preventive measures for the IT network, systems, and software applications.

Present comprehensive findings and recommendations regarding identified vulnerabilities to the Head of ICT for implementation of corrective measures.

Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments leveraging established IT security tools and methodologies to identify and document any potential IT security risks or exposures present within the network infrastructure, systems, and software applications.

Establishes network specifications through collaboration with users, evaluating workflow, access, information, and security requirements to develop router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.

Maintains optimal network performance through continuous monitoring and analysis, in addition to performance tuning. Troubleshoots network issues as they arise and escalates unresolved problems to external vendors for resolution.

Secures the network infrastructure by implementing robust access protocols, continuously monitoring network activity, enforcing stringent control measures, and conducting thorough evaluations to ensure optimal performance. Maintains precise and up-to-date documentation to support network integrity and compliance with organizational standards.

As part of this role, you will conduct regular assessments of firewall rules, configurations, and logs in collaboration with the Head of Enhanced Cyber Defense to establish access privileges, define control structures, and allocate resources effectively.

The ICT Manager will receive support in evaluating and proposing enhancements to key ICT policies, including the Disaster Recovery Plan, the Company’s Technology Infrastructure and Systems strategy, and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) Standard Operating Procedures.

The incumbent will maintain and update the ICT support helpdesk system while ensuring timely and continuous assistance to all users of information and telecommunication systems. They will deliver efficient, effective, and ongoing support to address user needs and enhance system functionality.

Deliver introductory training and technical assistance to users on network access procedures and software application utilization, while supporting the ICT Manager in the upkeep of documentation for all information systems.

Work with vendor support contacts to review and update SLAs and resolve technical problems with end user hardware software and MPLS/SD-WAN/internet.

Maintain compliance by verifying that all PCs, laptops, and servers within the domain or network operate on licensed and current operating systems, while also ensuring endpoint security solutions remain updated to the latest versions.

Ensure seamless interconnection of all computers with various systems, including associated validation systems, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.

Collaborate closely with the Head of ICT to develop and prepare the annual ICT training capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) budgets.

Execute additional tasks and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Systems Administrator or the Head of ICT.

Conduct comprehensive penetration testing and vulnerability assessments on information systems to identify security weaknesses and potential threats. Evaluate the effectiveness of security controls and recommend improvements to mitigate risks. Develop detailed reports outlining findings, risks, and remediation strategies for stakeholders. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging threats, attack methodologies, and industry best practices in cybersecurity. Collaborate with IT teams to ensure timely resolution of identified vulnerabilities and enhance overall system security posture.

Overseeing the ongoing operations related to threat and vulnerability management, this role ensures proactive identification, assessment, and mitigation of potential security risks. Responsibilities include monitoring security systems, analyzing emerging threats, and coordinating response efforts to minimize vulnerabilities. The position requires strong analytical skills, expertise in security frameworks, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement effective safeguards. Additionally, the role demands experience with threat intelligence tools and a deep understanding of cybersecurity best practices.

Deliver technical assistance to end users, addressing inquiries and resolving issues pertaining to hardware, software, and system functionalities. Respond to support requests via phone, email, or ticketing systems, ensuring timely resolution of technical challenges. Maintain detailed records of interactions and solutions in the helpdesk system for future reference and trend analysis. Collaborate with senior support staff to escalate complex issues when necessary, ensuring adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs). Stay current with product updates and emerging technologies to provide informed and effective support.

Oversee the installation and deployment of new hardware and software systems. Manage the coordination of firmware updates as well as application and software upgrades.

Collaborate with external vendors to address and rectify software and hardware-related issues efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

Operating and database systems responsibilities include installing, upgrading, and distributing operating systems and software packages, as well as performing database installations and updates. Additionally, the role involves tuning and optimizing performance for operating systems, databases, and their associated software, alongside monitoring system efficiency to ensure seamless operation.

The position requires an individual with a comprehensive skill set.

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is required for this position.

A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in network administration is required.

Network and Security Certification: Candidates must possess either a CCNA, CEA, or an equivalent credential to qualify for this role.

With a proven track record in network setup, configuration, and implementation, you will bring practical expertise to our team. Your background should include direct involvement in deploying and optimizing network infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity and performance. Familiarity with industry-standard protocols, hardware deployment, and troubleshooting methodologies is essential to support our operational requirements.

Highly proficient in network infrastructure, protocols, and systems, with a deep understanding of routing, switching, and security principles. Possesses strong troubleshooting capabilities and experience managing both wired and wireless networks. Familiar with industry-standard tools and technologies used for monitoring, configuration, and optimization. Capable of designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable network solutions to meet organizational needs.

Proven expertise in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of routers.
